His father, a former Kentucky star, said his son decommited because he had nothing to compare to the Hoosiers and wanted to evaluate his options. The reason might also be that UK entered the picture, or that coach Tom Crean decided he could get better players and withdrew the commitment he had previously accepted. Regardless, OSU is short on scholarships and has a desperate need for inside help, so this should not have an impact at Olentangy and Lane. Still, if something is bad for Crean it is good for me.
Junior attended high school with former Buckeye DeShaun Thomas, and is rated at about the same level as future Buckeye DeAngelo Russell.
I just checked out Blackmon on 247Sports and I understand why he shouldn't have an impact at tOSU. He's a shooting guard and we do need some "inside help" as you duly noted.
Top-50 players like Blackmon are hard to ignore though and, if Crean really thinks he can do better, that's scary about Indiana.
It's good to see you posting again, Lee.
Tom Crean is cutting down the nets to celebrate the loss.
We may have lost the battle......but not the war.
Crean DID NOT pull the offer.
Blackmon and Trey Lyles have now both pulled THEIR commitment from Tom Crean for 2014. Lyles is a five star.
I spend a fair amount of time trolling the Indiana basketball boards (Peegs, Inside the Hall, etc) and, believe me, IU fans are not happy! Blackmon was the centerpiece of the class. Sort of like what Jalin Marshall was for us, football wise.
Rumor is that Blackmon is Michigan bound, and that this had been brewing for some time. People are saying that this, in large part, is the reason for the altercation between Crean and Meyer-- the UM assistant and lead recruiter--at the end of their game in Ann Arbor last season.
Indiana now has zero commits for 2014, after starting out with two studs. Perhaps, Crean will cease the practice of banking on commitments from fifteen year old kids now. In basketball, a commitment from a blue chip, fifteen year old means nothing. As soon as UNC, UK and the like show up, it just falls apart.
In all honesty, Crean has made a lot of enemies both in Indiana and outside. His recruiting seems to be slowing significantly as well. Michigan and Louisville are killing it in Indiana right now. A lot of Indiana's incoming studs and targets are actually coming from the Virginia area. Crean does very well there.
I'm wondering if IU is really "back" for the long haul. A lot will depend on these next two seasons. They should be very good.
Is that a typo? Crean and Meyer had an altercation in Michigan?
I believe he said Meyer, the Michigan assistant. Reread it.
I believe his name is Jeff Meyer--or Myers? Lol. He is Michigan assistant coach. He has recruited Indiana hardcore. Not the same guy.
Five guys on Michigan's roster this season are from Indiana, including Robinson III and Mitch McGary.
Needless to say, UM recruits indiana in basketball like they do us in football. IU and Michigan are REALLY butting heads.

This is interesting. I thought I read somewhere last night that Blackmon said he could very well end up at IU, just wanted to look around. I haven't seen any Michigan insiders post anything making me feel confident, but I sure would like this kid to join the team. Michigan is in several battles for '14 recruits and I am definitely concerned about winning enough of them.
From what I hear, being surrounded by Hoosier hysteria...Indiana has less than a 1% chance of keeping him. He is just trying to let them down softly.
I'm hearing ALL MICHIGAN.
A lot of people speculate UK, but I don't think Calipari is really working on him. While the kid is very good, Calipari is interested mainly in the top of the shelf, can't miss five star kids. Blackmon is a four star who needs to work on aspects of his game.
I'm not sure we have seen a recruiter like Calipari in college basketball. What he is doing at UK is unbelievable. If he steals Kennard from Ohio, I will be pissed...
Interesting. I appreciate the info. Wonder how he compares to Devin Booker and if Michigan would take both?
Word is Senior is saying if UK wants him they have him...This will be a good one to keep an eye on.
