LGHL interview with 2014 WR Johnnie Dixon~Talkin OSU

  • '14 4-star WR Johnnie Dixon talks Ohio State
By Zach Clark/Land Grant Holy Land
    Feb 5, 4:00p

We caught up with 4-star WR Johnnie Dixon to talk about Ohio State, his recruiting process, and what the future holds for him.

Playmakers, playmakers, playmakers. Even the most casual of Buckeye fans know of Coach Meyer's immediate effort to secure "playmakers" fitting his unique offensive scheme. After finally exhausting the search for playmakers in the 2013 class, it's game on for 2014.

Among those early names being considered as Meyer's hand-picked playmaker candidates for the 2014 Buckeye recruiting class is 4-star wide receiver Johnnie Dixon. The 5-10, 187-pound speedster holds an early Buckeye offer, and, a little over a week ago, Coach Meyer stopped by his high school (Dwyer) in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida to chat with him.

According to 247Sports' Composite Rankings ( http://247sports.com/Player/Johnnie-Dixon-14151 ), Johnnie grades out at a 90 overall, is ranked the 423rd best overall player in the country, the 55th best wide receiver in the country, and the 51st best overall player in Florida, one of the nation's football powerhouse states. I spoke with Johnnie, and we discussed Ohio State, his recruiting process, and many other things:

► How'd your junior season at Dwyer go?

It went pretty well, but we didn't go as far in the playoffs as I had wanted.

► What's your favorite part about playing wide receiver?

Playing receiver, you can do so many different things. You can run the ball, catch the ball, and block defenders. I love how there is so much I can do for my team out there.

► What is your biggest strength? What part of your game that you need to work on the most?

I'm very physical, and I'd say that's my biggest strength. The part of the game I want to work on the most is my route-running.

► Let's get into your recruitment now. What are the main schools recruiting you currently? Which coaching staffs do you have the best relationships with?

Alabama, Miami, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee, NC State, South Florida, and Washington State are the main schools that are recruiting me. It's hard to think of all of them. I'd say I have the best relationship with the Miami staff.

► What do you like about Ohio State?

Their great tradition. They were undefeated last season, and they're a great team in a lot of ways. They're very consistent on both sides of the ball.

► What do you and the coaching staff talk about?

They want me to come on down for junior day, sit in on some film sessions, and watch some practices.

► Do you plan on visiting during the spring or heading to Ohio State for junior day?

Yeah, I think me and a few teammates may head up there for junior day.

► What have been your best college visits so far?

I've visited Miami, Florida, and Florida State. Miami is always a great time every time I visit.

► Do you plan on attending one of Ohio State's camps this summer?

Yeah, I'd like to get up there for an Ohio State camp.

► Do you have any idea of when you want to announce your decision?

I'm really not sure at this time.

► How do you deal with the pressure of the recruiting process and being such a highly touted recruit?

I don't really know, I just don't think about all that. It's not easy at all, but I try my best.

► Do you speak with other top recruits in the 2014 class? Do you try to recruit anyone to go play with you in college?

I talk a lot with Travis Rudolph ( http://247sports.com/Player/Travis-Rudolph-14148 ) , and we talk about playing together.

Do you plan on attending any Ohio State games this upcoming season?

    Hopefully, I really want to.

    ► QUICK HITS:

Role Models: I look up to my mom a lot, she's a very hard-working woman.

Best Subject in School: Science probably.

    Hobbies: Bowling.

Movies: I love scary movies. But I really like Friday Night Lights.

TV Shows: Avatar, the cartoon [laughter].

Favorite Sports Teams: The Miami Heat and the Chicago Bears.

Thanks to Johnnie for a great interview and taking the time to give Buckeye Nation a chance to get to know you. Good luck in the recruiting process and your senior season.
