I get so tried of reading posts of viewers who undermine our coaching staff.. "why did they offer him or he's just a 3 star". With that said, I have total confidence in our staff that they are only offering to kids who will be a contribute to our program. Our staff forgot more about football then any of us will ever know.
Yea guys! Let's have a giant circle jerk on this board talking about how great our coaches are.....never question them.....just observe and praise.
You sound like you're requesting to be the cookie... Yuck!
Yeah I mean what would be the point of these message boards if nobody questioned anything? So apparently we had no reason to question Tressel and Bollman with Oline recruiting then huh? Yeah right!
The problem is that the guys questioning have never seen the kids play in person, have never met them, have never talked to their coaches, and know nothing other than some website gave them a 3* rating. That's what's frustrating about the complainers.
two words John Hankins nuff said ehh 2 more Aj Hawk hmmm one more Malcolm Jenkins all 3*....... just sayin
A good portion of the rating are based on tape that the recruiting services have and off season camps. If players don't attend camps and don't have a lot of vid they likely are not going to be rated highly. The rating system is not based on a fair evaluation of talent if kids dont have resources to show what they got.
I think everyone is entitled to an opinion. And Bucknuts would be a giant snoozefest if we all agreed and did nothing but praise every decision/move.
That said, I also think it's pretty weak to base your opinion on a service's ranking of a recruit (let alone publicly state it as if it is a better basis for decision than the coaching staff's opinions). If you've seen something (absolutely or comparatively) in the film, competition, games, measurables or camp performances that's one thing...and perfectly legit, whether wrong or right. However, if you're just going off what Rivals, Scout, 247, etc. have ranked a kid at this point in his high school career (i.e. even before summer camps or his Sr. season)...you might want to tread lightly on being too vocal about your borrowed opinion.
It is the coaches job to know more than we do and to do more research than we do and to be more apt than we are. They better be freaking better than every last one of us. If not, I question why they make the money they do. With that said, they sometimes get it wrong. If we don't question them...the front row should be changed to Meyer's minions.... Is that what you want?
I agree our staff knows way more than any of us but what's the point in even being a member if we can't debate recruiting? What your saying is borderline communism. Yes I am aware that's extreme but it's the truth.
I'm afraid to ask but I'll do it anyway....
What is the "cookie?"
I agree. There is a reason they have the title of Coach and we have the title of poster. It's like yelling at the tv during a game, no one is listening or going to hear them.
Well, if you think you can do a better job evaluating talent by what you see other sites ratings on these kids......then stop talking about it and start doing it. Get OSU to fire Urban and you and all the other armchair talent evaluators can take over.
So your saying we should Only be able to have one opinion and that is the one siding with the staff or majority opinion? No thank you. Starbuck where you at when I need you bro?
No sir...read my second post in this thread. It'll explain everything you need to know about me.
lol...furthermore, how does this impede the coaching staff's job?
The way you present it is in abosolutes. Some people feel we can wait longer on these players. Others don't like what they see on film. Opinions of prospects will change. A strong senior year could positively change opinions. Conversly, a poor senior season could change people's perception of a player.
I've never understood why everyone must love every prospect we offer? If experts have their opinion, why can't the casual fan have their own opinion? I don't see anyone suggesting we should get rid of Urban over a commit.
Cleveland Orchestra Baby!! World's greatest!! The Brown's wet dream is to be them. The Ohio State University-Where the Illibuck Lives!
let's just rejoice that bollman is no longer the O line/offensive coordinator.
It's a message board. This is what people do on message boards.
In this case, it seems that even the recruiting services are rating this guy as an end, when it seems he was been chosen as a tackle. I know everyone is entitled to his opinion; it's just that I'd rather hear Jbook or 83 or Duane over some of the folks going off.
It's a little off-putting to hear all the "sky is falling" stuff just because some ESPN type ranked the kid as a three.
By the way, who are they getting as an end to rush the passer?

We are buckeye fans. We take this stuff seriously. Also, we dont have all of the facts.
So, if there is a kid that we think is better and we think osu has a shot, we speak up.
