Mark Dantonio on being in a division with Ohio State, Michigan: "That's their problem"
"We’ll play the games that are lined up for us," Dantonio said. "Who knows who’s in the conference in 2014? It’s a crazy world out there. … That’s other people’s problem. If they’re in the conference with us, that’s their problem. Right? They’re the ones that have got to deal with it."
— Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio
Woody and Archie.................................. Alex being Alex, ....................................and Woody at Dennison
Exactly what he should have said. Now he needs to back it up in recruiting and on the field.
Love this answer dino but cmon...NOone is losing sleep over msu being in their div. Ha
Dantonio is a badass. I will enjoy watching them play every year and IMO the east is much stronger and it will help our SOS.
Dino taking a page from Bo Ryan perhaps?
He's right, it is absolutely our problem having to play them every season as far as strength of schedule goes. It would look better to voters if we beat a strong Sparty team rather than a floundering one.

Our quarterback does front flips, suck it.
Maybe Mark Dantonio can let us all know when MSU actually matters. When was the last time they won the B1G outright? Last National Title?
Trained by tress. I like him.
I have a pipe dream of him getting fired the same year that Fickell and/or Withers move on to a head coaching job and he comes back to OSU to finish his career as Urban's DC.
MSU absolutely matters. Maybe they won't be in the hunt for the NC yearly, but for the "health" of the B1G [level of competition, national stature, etc] they are vital. To make the dreaded SEC example, its the number of good teams in conference that make it such a good league, not just that there are a couple top 10 teams.
Having MSU perenially ranked in the #12-25 range (realistic goal) would be great for the conference.
And historically, they have won 6 NCs, the last in 1966. Big 10 title in 2010 (shared), last outright was in 1987 I believe.

see this is a general "problem" with the big ten and BT fans. We even scoff at our own teams. Michigan State deserves respect both within the big ten and nationally. they've been a solid program since he's coached there. I'd be offended by the question, if I were him, too.
"according to a source familiar with the goings on behind the doors of the WHAC,there is absolutely no panic.Actually, quite the contrary."
They did beat Georgia in a bowl...
Not disagreeing, but unless ancient history still counts, Michigan doesn't matter either. The 2 of them will be battling for runner up honors along with the rest of the division.
More of the same, but if I'm him, I'm thinking the better question is, "what does michigan think about having to play in a division with OSU and msu".

They don't matter. They are a mid-level B1G school that occasionally can compete for second place. Dantonio is speaking as if MSU is a major force to be reckoned with.
They have beaten every team in the league over the last several years. Since Dino has been at MSU they have owned scUM. He has nothing to back down from.
Is every coach in the B1G supposed to say at their pressers "we are just so happy to be in the same conference as OSU, that they grace us with playing a game at our home stadium every other year. I just pinch myself I get to shake hands with Meyer after his amazing athletes kill us once again"?
Truthfully, I bet his comments are directed more towards media that act like he should be scared about being in the same division as scUM.
Dantonio believes in his program and his ability. If he didn't he should be doing something else.
I wouldn't have expected him to say anything less..Always liked that guy....Go Bucks, now lets kick his butt.
the thought of being scared of MSU is hilarious to me. He said the right thing though,
I don't care what he says at his press conference. But to come off the way he did was plain stupid. Just because it has taken him years to finally beat every team does not mean squat to me. If every coach sticks around long enough they will eventually beat everyone in the conference. Backing down has nothing to do with it. Knowing the reality of where his school's place in the pecking order should be something that he is aware of. Last season Northwestern had a great year. You don't hear Fitzgerald popping off like they just won the B1G.
This is 100% true.
They've had a few good years as of late. One year they didn't have to play Ohio State and the next was the year that Fickell coached. They have owned Michigan because of RichRod. Hell, everyone owned Michigan because of RichRod. They lost to them last year and will likely lose to them again this year.
Dantonio started in 2007 and Coached MSU to a conference record of 3-5. After 6 years as head coach, he finished 3-5 in the conference.
The guy is a good defensive coach but lets not take it too far. MSU is still just slightly above an average football program and no one fears MSU.
