...it interesting how we are now seeing the dynamics of recruiting from a different light. When you get into offering several dozen offers at each position and when you go high pressure to recruit, you are not offering just the kids who grew up wanting to be a Buckeye. You are offering national talent that many people want, you are reruiting the the top kids only, we are going down south and into other areas where we havent pulled a ton of kids. To many of these kids we are just another one of the top 5 programs. So when another one of the top 5 comes along they listen, when we recruit another top athlete at their position, the kids hear from other coaches about the competition. There seems to be more gamesmanship going on now with Meyer being a high pressure recruiter vs Tressel.
Tressel went after a handful of kids who were likely to commit and felt like that was a more "safe" way to recruit. He might not get the top players at each position nationally, but he would get the best to very good and good players regionally and then steal a few out of Florida or whatever. With that strategy he got the players that really wanted to be Buckeyes early and didnt really need to have the signing day drama (of kids taking visits at the last minute and lying about in some cases) that we are starting to see with Meyer trying to hold on to super recruits, hold off other coaches just trying to make a point. I think we need to get used to a completely different environment regarding recruiting. Not saying one is better than the other, just very different with a different set of rammifications.
I think the excitement is definitely there for the Urban era for recruiting compared to Tress. Tress never went out on a limb to get these kinds of recruits that Urban is getting. All I know is this is driving me crazy here the last few days of watching all the drama unfold. I check this site every few minutes to see what's going on and am consumed by it. Now I know what a crackhead feels like. I feel like I need to go to rehab. Lol. Lets hope everything works out for us on NSD. Go Bucks.

I prefer Meyer's style of recruiting WAYYY more than Tressel's style of recruiting.
When Tressel missed on a national recruit , he would settle for some feel good story MAC recruit & hoped he eventually developed into a serviceable player down the road. When Meyer misses on a recruit , he has 4/5 other equally or just slightly less talented recruits lined up ready to take that spot.
You don't win 2 championships in the SEC by " settling " on regional developmental talent.

Yeah urban is definitely more agressive in just about every way. Time will tell of osu ultimately wins more championships and has as good or better record vs ttun. So far I think he will, but time will tell.
It has nothing to do with them being from Ohio. Fred Davis, Kyle Kalis, Prescott Burgess, etc. were Ohio guys. Being from Ohio doesn't mean you are anymore invested in TOSU.
The reason there is more uncertainty is we are going after elite recruits. It's not between TOSU and MAC schools. Competition means uncertainty but it also means we are going after the best.
Cleveland Orchestra Baby!! World's greatest!! The Brown's wet dream is to be them. The Ohio State University-Where the Illibuck Lives!
Lol, you guys are forgetting the Henderson Saga, sharriff Floyd , Joyner - fSU , shaw, marlon Brown , taj Boyd ...
You win some you lose some, man where were you guys these whole 10 years?
When the buck nuts stuff will call some kid a
lock & when he picks his home school or USC or something the whole board goes in meltdown
Just because Tress didn't waste his time with the DIVA Recruits that want all the spotlight to themselves ALA Terrelle Pryor & locked them up early before their recruiting stock soared up doesn't mean you haven't seen so many 5* or a top 5 class before.
Not taking anything from Urban, he is a young coach & a great recruiter , different coaches have different ways of doing stuff.
Yes Bama has a top class each year, but we don't know how many 3* & 4* that contribute in their program better than the 5*
I'll give you Shazier & Curtis Grant example . Grant was considered the high guy #1 by most services, Shazier was lower but let's say we signed Shazier & Grant choose an SEC school or VT. We would have been crying on how we missed on the #1 OLB while Shazier is blowing up here.
This whole thing is overblown appreciate them both & if you say Tress didn't get elite talent look no further than the NFl , I'd say Tress is a heck of an evaluator & talent developer, Meyer & Tress have had their shares of busts, but you can't compare 10 years to 2 years & 5 years at another school , especially the State of Florida.
I live in Georgia, they have all the instate talent in the world & surrounding so called SEC hotbeds, they can't win Jack got blown out by South Car.
I think having 2 coaches with 5 national title games & BCS bowl records is a good problem to have, comparing who is better is ridiculous & immature if you ask, why waste your time? Enjoy the ride.
you guys forget Bucknuts is trying to sell memberships..so they will stir the Drama..

Too logical, too obvious, too simple, therefore unacceptable to this board...
