Know why "hilarious" is such a funny word? Because it's hilarious.
Too logical, too obvious, too simple, therefore unacceptable to this board...
I must be missing something in all this but to me I agree it appears to be an effort on Miami's part to defer the spotlight off them and onto the NCAA. Once this mess all settles I just hope that Miami has to pay for all its transgressions which seem pretty significant. On another note I also agree it seems that all of these schools handle the NCAA a lot better than we do. While I do not advocate their practices of lying there is nothing wrong with completely denying an transgressions and it seems to be working quite well for these schools under scrutiny.
The police do the exact same thing all the time. Tell you someone else said something to get you to talk. If you fall for that and talk, you are a schmuck.
At this point, Miami has a legitimate issue to escape some penalties. Aside from a couple of years of scholarship reductions, I don't see what the NCAA should do here. To enforce, you have to have a level of legitimacy. They have so botched this case that Miami should probably escape with less. Real egg on the fact of the NCAA. If this was the Buckeyes, people would be crying foul. In fact, people did cry foul and the NCAA didn't have any of the actual issues that have arisen in the Miami case.

First off, this isn't a court of law. Miami isn't up on any legal trial. The NCAA can put together a case however they choose and draw conclusions however they choose. Then they can implement penalties however they choose. And if the school doesn't like it, leave the NCAA. Simple as that.
We can debate the powers of the NCAA. Thats a completely different topic. But Miami is an NCAA governed institution and therefore agreed to the bylaws and are subject to the NCAA's oversight. Therefore, crying foul on the NCAA's methods is simply stupid.
Furthermore, the tactics used by the NCAA are used in every legal investigation. Do people honestly think in an interrogation room officials aren't lying to subjects to get them to reveal information? There is no risk of perjury here. Thus, these methods are paramount. People are under no obligation other than honor to tell any truth to the NCAA. They aren't swearing on a bible.
I have no problem with what the NCAA is doing and how they have been doing it. To me it makes complete sense and is entirely necessary.
I'm all in favor of keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of fools. Let's start with typewriters.
