Things getting interesting for Thad
Wish Hayes luck, I do not see this as a big loss. Not sure how much he ever would play at OSU with our young wings.
2014 is the big year OSU and Matta cannot miss, and with lots of these teams signing full classes or over signing, that could work to our advantage.
Better to wait for 2014 talent, than reach.
He's a 4 so pretty sure the wings won't affect his playing time. Considering Williams went elsewhere I think it's somewhat of a big loss.
Love the pick for Hayes personally Bo will get everything out of him
Have to agree with 83..... I've seen him play quite a bit and was actually shocked we offered. Also I do not think he is a 4 in the Big Ten...he's not that much bigger than Buford

I think he's def good enough to play in the big. Don't think he's a world beater, and he's not nearly athletic enough to be a 3. He's an undersized 4, like I said I think Wisky is perfect for him.
I think he's a big loss depth wise. Next year down low you have Loving, Williams and who? Don't know the roster that well but can't think of who else you have. Even if Hayes is five fouls and hustle he's big depth wise
I do agree he fits much better at Wisky....Loving plays mostly on the outside in high school....if he's gonna play down low he will need a ton of work
Im a huge Thad Matta fan and I think hes done wonders for OSU but I am (for the first time) baffled by our recruiting lately.
lack of HS talent in Ohio and Crean at Indiana
I keep trying to tell people that OSU isn't on that scoop five stars nationally level of recruiting yet.
Matta has only landed 5 stars from Ohio and 3 from Indiana (Oden, Conley, Thomas)
The talent has been severely down in Ohio prep ranks lately.
Evan Turner from Illinois and Amir Williams from Michigan were both 5 stars.
I think it's Matta back. I don't think he can put in the time into recruiting that he used to. His back is gradually going to get worse which is the scary thought.
Don't know about stars but Amir and Scott were McDonalds All Americans and are from TSUN and GA. However, unless your KY ($$$$), Duke, or UNC your most likely not going to pull 5 stars nation wide all the time. The key is finding great talent out talent within the top 100 national hoopsters (Turner, Lighty, Craft (not sure he was top 100 but you get the idea)) sprinkle in a few McD AA (from wherever) and you have a perinal Top 10 hoops team, Big Ten Championships, Sweet 16s, and couple Final 4s.
2 out His last 67 offers have commited. And off a final 4 run. We have to address that mattas health has become a huge issue. Perhaps, from a negative recruiting standpoint only. But this become bizzarre.

On what site?
Williams was a fringe top 100 and Turner was in the 40s from what I remember
I'm with Diddy. I just don't see how Matta can put in the necessary recruiting work with his back getting as bad as it looks. He has great assistants but you need your head coach on the grind.
It's a shame... I thought Matta would be able to get it done but I doubt it now and it's no fault of his own.
This is good news. Hayes is not a game changer and I wondered why we offered at all. Loving is decent and the MD kid is a riser. Get a late bloomer/JUCO big or bank the scholly and we're good so not time to hit the panic button. Well at least not yet. In hoops you can weather one average class. If 14 class looks like the 13 class then we will be in danger of dropping from the ranks of the elite.
"Ohhhh, man I wish I could go back in time. I'd take state."
I agree with you. I'm just trying to make the point that because of load of talent that was in Ohio/Conley/Oden people's expectations got too big
Oh and Kentucky doesn't pay their players.
It is sort of weird how Matta can't gain more momentum on the recruiting trail with his on court success.
My one theory is that they think too highly of themselves/are stubborn. My buddy who scouts on the west coast/is supper plugged in told Boals that Parker was going to UCLA 100% in June, yet OSU continued to recruit him until he went to UCLA and had zero back up plans. Don't know if that's on Boals or Matta but you have to recruit other bigs as well as Parker after getting that info from said person
