Labor Day should be OSU vs Michigan to start the season and in prime time.
1) All eyes would be on these two programs.
2) does anyone want to face scUM back to back weeks which going by recruiting its going to happen a lot. I'm going to be pissed if we beat them the end of the season and then fall in the title game a week later.
3) everyone is healthy so both teams would be fully equit.
4) whoever losses the first game would get the whole year to rebound. Should we meet again for the b10 title game, it would be two different teams from the first time we played on Labor Day.
I know the tradition argument but having Michigan as the last game of the season no longer makes since unless we're in the same division. Both teams have stadium lights now, let's move it to Labor Day. Imagine that environment!
This is a good idea Alpha.
The only question is if we start our Big Ten season early like the SEC does will we be able to find cupcakes to fill in later in the year?
Or maybe we should add some in season SEC clashes
Very good prospective
We would need one cupcake each, I think we could feel it with a Big East or Indy school or even Hawaii. Those games could essentially be a scrimmage until we play Michigan again for the b10 title game.
I look and see Va Tech vs Georiga Tech tonight and it's a wasted opportunity for the b10 to show off it's premier teams.
What an absolutely terrible idea. That shows no appreciation of the tradition built up over decades. So shallow a thought!
In fairness the big 10 championship takes away a lot of that. Not from the game but from he timing of the ame.

Exactly, going by tradition we would not be playing Michigan twice. The only way it makes since to play Michigan last is to be in the same division. It makes no since playing them at the end of the season now.
My your liqueur be cold, your women be hot, and all your problems slide off like snot.
Interesting idea by Alpha, but I agree 100% with all of Kirk's points. I don't think Michigan will be in the game this year, so neither team will have even played in the game in its first two years. OSU will be there year three, will Mitchigan? We'll see.

I don't like the "cross that bridge when we get there approach" because when it happens then you are not prepared.
I would be pissed if we go to AA, win, lose Brax in the 4th qtr and then he not be available when we play them again in the following week and we lose.
The game is devalued if we cross that bridge. What if both teams clinch their divisions early? Then what? Do we rest our guys for the regular season matchup?
Don't agree with this... That FSU vs Miami game was awesome on labor day night. Both teams went to hell, mainly Miami and its killed the series. They played a few memorable games... I'd try OSU vs scUM once and see how it works, maybe twice to give both teams a home game. If it works, roll with it... there is nothing wrong with trying something new. Traditions don't last forever, you have to embrace some change sooner or later.
not very well thought out.
besides all of Kirk's points
a) lets have Sr. tackle on Aug. 29. to just get that out of the way
b) how about take a swim in Mirror Lake on a steamy August night to show your 'dedication' .
Instead of opening the game with lines like "on a cold gray November Day with a threat of snow"...we can replace that with...cool zone blowers...free water bottle giveaways and heat warnings.
and lastly...what would an OSU-Um game be with the OSU helmet void of Buckeye leaves?
Do not want.
If Michigan makes it back, all eyes will be on The Game regardless of when its played. I want it to be bigger than a bowl game, with both teams seasoned and depth making a difference. This is the culmination. This is the war. Everything tobthis point is merely preparation to see how good you are; how much you can take; how badly you want it. The Game is the time to unleash it. All that you've not shown, all that you've worked on one day a week through eleven previous games, saving it for this game. The Seniors get the biggest game as their sendoff, the Frosh don't get a taste until they're ready. It has to be the last game.
I would rather fight to get OSU and scum in the same B1G division than to fight to get The Game as the first game of the season

Well said. Agree 100%!
You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.
