I live here in Chicago and these are my recommendations.
Golfing go to Harborside on the south side, 20 minute cab ride from down town.
Steak go to Mastro's and you will need a reservation its the best restaurant in town right now and its very hard to get into.
Italian food go to Rosebud
If you want to to go a Club go to Paris Club.
The museums are fun and cool but all depends on what you are into. Cubs game is a blast and you have a bout 4 square blocks of bars to choose from and really before of after a game all of them will be packed and fun. Harry Carrys is pretty fun after the game. Or Casey Morans.
Public transportation will be less than parking 60 bucks a day especially if you are going to drive all over the city and park.
Time and change will surely (truly) show
How firm thy friendship ... OHIO!
Sarah sorry about the Herpes.
River cruise with the architectural history is an absolute must.
Get a Chicago Magazine dining guide (might even be on the internet) and they break down restaurants by cuisine, location, price, etc. Great scouting report on bars and restaurants.
Go Magnificent Mile (public transit) & near north/Gold Coast.
Cubs + Wrigleyville another great outing.
I dream of a day when chickens can cross the road without having their motives questioned.
I fully agree on Chicago Architectural Cruise. Whenever we have friends in from OH, we suggest or take them on the cruise.
An additional suggestion I have not seen others make, if you dont have to drive here, don't. If you do have to drive, find the cheapest secure parking place and leave your car there. Walk, take public transportation or cabs everywhere you go. You will save $$ and eliminate a lot of headaches. You have to pay to park EVERYWHERE you go.
From the previous advice, I think we are now planning on parking at Midway for the week and taking the train into town. Only problem with doing that is carrying the luggage and golf clubs on the train. Are there any courses close to Midway? That way we can just leave the sticks in the car and make a day out of it. Definitely going to hit up the Architectural Cruise. Heard nothing but great things. Thanks again. Pretty much getting the whole trip planned from this message board alone.
I have to take exception to Al's having the best italian beef. Mr. Beef on Orleans at Erie has the best italian beef in Chicago. It is a must for italian beef.
