If you want to pay less then Dish. If you want more then Direct TV but it will cost more.
Both are fine. I have been a direct TV subscriber for 8 years now and I am thoroughly satisfied.
Its the ease of use that makes it worth it. I manage my account online. I can log in anywhere and set up purchases and subscription changes such as the addtion of HBO or cancelling Showtime because Dexter is over. I can add PPV of events and movies with ease. Direct TV is the best for sports fans, in my opinion. They have NFL Sunday ticket. That coupled with digital video recording (dvr) makes it worth it alone.
I have only had one issue with Direct TV and that stemmed from me getting a free upgrade to one of my boxes to a high def box. The guy who make the "deal" with me told me the old box could be discarded because it was too old and they didn't want it. 2 months later a box arrives and now they suddenly want the box back. They wanted to bill me for it as well. I called customer service and explained what happened. They basically ignored my story of what happened and said again they want their box back. Told them the box was thrown out per their instructions so holding me responsible for their fuck up is more than a little dishonest. They kicked it up to some manager who also tried to strong arm me. I flat out told them that I was not going to pay for it and if they didn't want to eat it that I was going to cancel my service and they weren't going to get the money for their box any way. Suddenly they found some grace in their heart and forgave me for listening to their instructions to throw away the box and extended a 1 time only grace card.
Other than that one single incident I have been very happy with the service.

"The only thing That Team Up North will be tasting this year is the salty tears of defeat" - UFM
I find Directv to be the best. I have had both.
Directv, if for anything for the Sunday Ticket.
I had dish for 3 years and direct since the b10 dispute with dish caused me to switch to direct.
Only thing I miss with dish is the ability to watch tv on mobile devices. With dish you can watch tv on your phone or tablet. Even your DVR recordings. Directv you have to be on the same wifi network as your box (home only).
Had Dish for 2 years and one month... Not a bad system, but the hardware allows 1HD and 1SD TV per box (unless they have changed). Can limit you on HDTVs that you can apply - we did a six room configuration to allow for 3 HDTVs. I did not have "The Hopper" - so I don't have experience with their multi-room viewing.
Have had DirecTV for the last eight months - including Sunday Ticket. Bought the Home Media Center - now the Genie, I believe. Have absolutely 0 complaints. Love the selection, love the sports. Love the picture. DVR is excellent - although always surprising how fast it fills up. Multi-room viewing is easy. I bought a Slingbox 500 to go with it (for travelling to China and Europe). On-Demand is pretty easy as well.
I won't go back to Dish.
I have had DTV for ten years in two locations and am very satisfied. I have not had Dish but the last time I looked it wasn't comparable in terms of the channel offering/cost, maybe they have improved.
the whole house DVR is awesome! four tvs hooked up to it and i can record and/or watch anything on any tv. plus i just got a message that there HDTV lineup is now 170 + channels!

"I'm not fucking around, I'm not dealing with any bullshit." Urban Meyer
I have not tried Dish so have no opinion on them, but have had DirecTV for years at a summer home. Customer Service is top notch and you can suspend service once a year for up to 6 months at no charge. Weather is sometimes an issue, especially heavy rain, but otherwise, no complaints.
I have had Direct Tv for 15 years, yep when it first came out. I would not give it up anything else right now......My $.02
Add another vote to directv. Ill never go back to anything else.
It's amazing when u think about how companies have reinvented products. Tv used to be free. Now for the mind numbing choices you pay 100-150 a month. And when they added the high def option i actually called and said are you going to charge me this when every channel comes in high def?(apparently the answer is yes) Same for phones. And I thought bottled water was a dumb idea when it came out. As a dtv customer since day 1 I would say it wins based on the best customer service out there
Definitely Directv...dish could offer me free service and I still wouldn't switch.
You can have my account number to save a $100 bill too...
I had Dish for many years before I switched to Direct TV about 5 years ago. There really is no comparison....They have the most HD channels, better customer service, sports, movie options, equipment. My dish would always go out during bad weather with Dish Network. With DTV, it is rare that is goes out. You may pay slightly more, but overall they provide a better customer experience with the entire package.
I am happy with Comcast cable. Except the BTN is non HD here in San Francisco. I rarely if ever miss a game because it is not on TV.
Buckeye Fan Since 1970!!!
Direct tv, very satisfied
"I am leaving it as I found it. Take over. It's yours."
I've had DirectV since 95. There is no better sports provider. I watch the Ohio state HS championships every year. I even watched the Michigan state championship to see some of the guys we are recruiting from Cass Tech. Plus the only NFL package on TV. I haven't missed a Buckeye or Steeler game is years.

Oh forgot to add one warning for Direct TV.
When you sign up for those big ticket items like college football package, (its awesome btw) or NFL Sunday ticket, they set you up for an AUTO RENEWAL for next year. What this means is if you do not call them up and specifically tell them you don't want it, you will be auto billed for it again next year.
They got me once for it. Learn from my mistake.
I've had all three. Easy decision = DirecTV. More channels, less money.
The Father, The Son... well, it's the
The Holy Trinity... as I see it.
Dish is cheaper then Direct but Direct is better quality.
