Mods/Staff - just out of curiousity, how are the individual stars and overall ratings determined on Bucknuts? Is it all based on up votes and down votes because if so somebody like MattC509 would have to have a negative star rating? I was just noticing that some individuals with thousands of posts have a lower overall rating that individuals with only a few hundred and just thought I'd ask...thanks in advance.
Here's how this works. Anytime you see a post of mine you push the green arrow. The rest doesnt really matter.
Dammit! I fell for it!

Well it aint working. I only see a red arrow. That works!
Done...well said ha!
I thought we were all ignoring M#*+?!@9
If you use his screenname it makes him seem real and not like the total douche that he obviously must be.
From another post if your rating is low you are either a total douche ala M#*+?!9 or one who appreciates stirring the pot and making a board a board and not some glorified circle jerk. We that don't post often appreciate those who do and make this board what it is. Keep up the good work.
What is with all this talk about circle jerking.
Sarah sorry about the Herpes.
Been to a tsun blue balls board lately?
Jort out = circle jerk.
Only to back up bollmanisaturd the other day.
I don't think many care too much, but from what I understand
0-19% of your votes as up votes = 1 star
20-39% of your votes as up votes = 2 star
40-59% of your votes as up votes = 3 star
60-79% of your votes as up votes = 4 star
80-100% of your votes as up votes = 5 star
I forget what the min to get a ranking is but I think it is 10 votes.
another thing. When you tell someone you've got their back because they were downvoted, one upvote doesn't cancel out one downvote. It takes several upvotes to cancel out one downvote. They are not equal. My guess would be somewhere between 5 and 10 upvotes will cancel out a downvote. That's probably part of the reason for being alotted so many more upvotes than downvotes per day.
north till ya smell it, west till ya step in it.
That explains a lot.
The whole dv/uv system only benefits the site and means nothing without a breakdown or accountability. If you make enemies they can dv you until kingdom come if they want. Smh.
If you are keeping them at a 5 star then it takes 4 to be just on the edge.
I believe you are rated based on how you will project when moving on to a NFL message board.
The numbers of the system are quite simple. If you mouse over the stars and see the numbers you get the rating and the number of votes. The rating is a percentage of those votes that are upvotes. You can never cancel out down votes, they exist forever. You can however make them a smaller percentage of the votes you receive.
I think the system for the most part works fine. If someone is a complete troll or moron they generally have a bad rating, and the majority of the posters on here have a fine rating. That's the only thing I pay attention to it for.
Nice, up vote for you.
shaunsimpson's percentages I believe are correct. They explain where you fall in the star system.
Essentially the "rating" is the percentage of upvotes relative to total votes. For example, if you have received 1000 votes in total and have a rating of 95, that means you have roughly 950 upvotes. Plus or minus a few depending on how 247 rounds.
However, because of this, a downvote does considerably more damage than an upvote helps. This is why one upvote can never make up for one downvote. As you gain more and more total votes, this continues to be the case.
Furthermore, you can never have a negative vote. The worst you can have is a rating of zero.
