I appreciate all of the thoughtful responses and it seems as if this is quite a common state of life for us dog lovers out there. I think my wife and I are on the same page in terms of making sure she has a quality of life. I don't want her staggering around blind as a bat etc... that does not honor what she has done for our family.
I also don't want to move too quickly as she wags her tail and purrs and indicates that though she is in the winter of her journey.. she is still happy and has alot to say and do.
We have a major appointment on the 25th and will find out a lot then... until then we are just staying the course and appreciating our time with her.... the tramadol and gapapentan have really helped her and she is noticably happier.. although she does have some major limitations compared to the dog she was just 6 months ago.
Pay it forward... as people have thoughtfully remarked.. it's about her not me at this point
