Siesta Key has the most beautiful beach in the world.
"Tonight, my butt's sore." - Mike Krzyzewski 11-29-11
Never stayed there, but have eyed this place before.
One Seagrove Beach is a condo resort in Seagrove Beach, Florida.
If you want the best beach and clearest waters the Florida golf coast offer some of the top rated beaches in the world. Siesta key is a great place if you like it laid back, they are far enough south that summer is their off season. The Destin area is awesome and summer is their peak season like Myrtle Beach if you like a lot going on. Prices are usually better the more south you go but if you’re driving it means a longer trip.
Being someone who has lived in Florida the last 7 years, I recommend that in the summers you should be up North. In the winters you should be down South.
The Great Lakes are fantastic in June. The black flies come out in late July/August.
If you are going to come down South, I suggest Amelia Island. I live here and the Omni Amelia Island Plantation is going under a 100 mil renovation and should be finished in March. There are a few golf courses, tennis courts, tons of beach, restaurants, kayaking, horseback riding, etc... The new OAIP is supposed to be more family friendly too. Lots of things for kids to do. And all the rooms and everything will be brand new or completely renovated. Kinda cool...
Disclaimer: Its hot as hades in Florida in the summer. And the state bird is the mosquito.
I'm all in favor of keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of fools. Let's start with typewriters.

I would recommend San Diego. You have San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Nice Hotels/resorts, beach/ocean, could catch a Padres game (stadium is awesome)
Another place is Lake Tahoe.
Our favorite is Fripp Island, South Carolina. Peace and quiet, great beach, relaxing and plenty for the young one's to do. Orange Beach and Destin are also great. www.vrbo.com is the place to look!
Sanibel Island in Southwest Florida is a great destination. If you're looking to relax and spend quality time together it's great. There's hardly anything to do but go to the beach, pool, and bike ride. I think that's kind of the point. I grew up going here on vacation and latter lived in the area. It's a gem.
BIG Champs 2013 [Buckeyes]
Destin is awesome, took the wife and 6 yr. old girl last year and we're headed back this year by unanimous vote. We had gone to Myrtle, Virginia Beach and Disney the prior 3 years, Destin was the best by far.
Fripp Island, Sc
San Diego(kids maybe a few years away from enjoying that area though age wise)
A few years from now - Charleston, SC
St. Simons Island, Ga
Pawleys Island/Murrells Inlet, SC
OBX and esp. Corolla which is the northern tip and less commercial than the rest
Your kids would love Wisconsin dells. Largest water parks in the world. Most hotels have a water park right in it. Lots of resturants, shops and tours.
My wife and I along with the inlaws go to Kure Beach, NC every summer. It is a nice place to spend time with family. Our nephews will be 7, 5, and 2 this year and they love it. It has old forts around, an aquarium, and a family atmosphere. You could also travel into Wilmington, which is only 45 mins away, one day and tour the USS North Carolina.

Have some friends who have done this and said it was incredible!
I'm in with Coach. Go far enough north (and flip off AA on your way) and it is wonderful. Lots of good football talk, good fishing, crystal clear waters and relaxation.
I grew up going to an area northeast of Traverse City and south of Charlevoix. Chain of Lakes (esp Torch and Elk) is amazing. Enough Sparty up there to counter and particularly popular with people from Cinci / Dayton / Toledo.
Peaceful, though. If you're looking for more than fun, sun, boating, skiing, fishing then perhaps not your spot.
I prefer Emerald Isle NC but undertow on Atlantic side is dangerous for little ones. Lived in Sarasota & Siesta Key, or Destin would be better beaches for kids your age, safer too.

Emerald Isle is a hidden gem. Keep it quiet. Took couples vacation there bout 5 years in a row. Really like it there.
Cape San Blas, an hour east of Panama City is a great place to travel with kids. Dr. beach rated it as one of the top 10 beaches in the US. We found our rental on VRBO.
