It was nice of the officials to ignore the holding and allow the murderer to retire with a Super Bowl win.
The better team won
I find it ridiculous the announcer saying it ok not to make a call since it was end of game. It's either a penalty or it isn't irregardless of what time is left in game!
Exactly - officials don't decide games by making a call, they decide games by not making the calls they should.
Good no call. They were engaged within 5 yards and Crabtree was clutching too and pushed off.
If it's a penalty in the 1st quarter it is a penalty in the 4th quarter. Overall they didn't have control of the game. I saw at least 3 different times a Raven player hit a 49er with a slap/punch after the play during trash talking sessions. Never a flag. Refs let it be a thugfest.
It happened 2 yards deep in the endzone. The ball was snapped at the 5.
I have no dog in this fight, I'm not a fan of either team..but I think that should have been a penalty. The defender was grabbing with BOTH hands at one point, and clearly had an effect on Crabtree getting to the ball.
Anytime Jim Harbaugh loses is sweet. At least we don't have to watch him throw tantrums for 7 months.
I'm not bitching about the refs, but I do disagree with this.
I think SF has the better, more talented team. Often the best team doesn't win for whatever reason.
As soon as that play happened, I started thinking of Porter.
I'm a niner fan. I'm not happy but I don't think a flag should have been thrown. It is technically holding, but the receiver needs to accentuate the holding. Crabtree kind of locked on rather than running through the hold. When a guy holds you and just let him lock on and slow dance with him, the ref isn't going to be that motivated to throw a flag.
I'm more bummed Frank Gore misread the blitz and let a guy come free. I played FB in high school and have to say blitz pickup is incredibly hard. If you look at Holy Buckeye one more time and focus on that component of the play, you'll see something special. On those downs where the defense can sellout, it's just brutal to basically take 1 step and lower the shoulder. You go the wrong way and the play basically dies on the vine.
I thought it was stupid they called that timeout and I was not fond of the play calls at the end.
In the end, it was 2 good teams and the breaks didn't go the Niners way. The Ravens created their own luck with a fumble here, a return there, and a nice stand at the end. They deserved it but that doesn't ease the pain.
Jim Harbaugh is going to stew this offseason.
Niners are very young with most key players signed long term. I don't think it's much of a stretch to say it's a coinflip they'll be back in the next 2 years.

I know I'm going off topic but was wondering how your food came out. Was your lady friend impressed?

Good looking out. She liked it. I butchered one of the 4 batches but people were too drunk to notice. I think I like this girl as I kept yammering with her during the game instead of being a nervous wreck. It's like my Robin Williams Good Will Hunting moment haha.
Krenzel would have made a better throw
Good to hear. Hope the girl and the cooking work out for you.
Exactly, I was a high school football officials and my response is I call the penalty that I see, I don't determine the game the actions of the players determine the game, I just enforce the rules that are in the book. If you don't want the flag thrown in that situation, then tell the player not to commit the penalty.
The db was holding with both hands. Crabtree couldn't even push him off. I think a better throw may have drawn a flag. A penalty is a penalty whether there is 1 second left or if its the first quarter. I hate to hear people say the rules are different at the end of the game. That makes no sense. The only positive is that the murderer is retiring.
I think if the pass had been thrown in bounds it may have forced the flag to come out. The nners had several blown scoring chances during the course of the game and why didn't they look to Vernon Davis on that last series.
Good days, bad days --- always a Buckeye. Time to begin the assault on the 2014 BCS National Championship
Ball was clearly uncatchable. Landed five yards out of bounds. Even Crabtree could not have stretched for that.
As they said, great non-call, you do not decide the Super Bowl on a questionable PI call.
49er fans just need to understand what it feels like to lose a Super Bowl.
The loss could not have happened to a more deserving jerk then Harbaugh.
I'm trying to guess at what angle the ball would have to be thrown so that if it landed only 5 feet out of bounds it would have been uncatchable. I can't picture that. I thought it was a very catchable ball.
I said five yards. Additionally, as they are pointing out on Mike and Mike, Crabtree locked on to the DB and never attempted to go around him, they are saying the refs would have been more inclined to throw the flag if Crabtree had not decided to engage in a wresting match and tried to push the DB away from him, thereby calling into question offensive PI.
Crabtree did not "sell" the PI.
The ball doesn't have to be catchable to call defensive holding does it?
Correct. The holding itself makes most throws uncatchable. With that said, the ball landed in the paint, not five yards out of bounds. It was catchable IMO. With that said, it is tough to throw a flag in that situation and I saw much worse "no calls" than that in the game.
They showed a replay at angle where you could see the defender with a handful of jersey. The ref was right in the line if sight, no way he didn't see it. I believe some if these refs choose to look the other way, bc they don't want to decide the game. Players that know this take advantage at the end if the game knowing they won't be flagged except for the most egregious violations.
That being said, I don't feel that sorry for the losing side. They make far more money than the rest of us.
I hear ya. It probably would have help get the call. I'm just not a big fan of having to 'sell' calls. IMO, it ruined World Cup soccer for me and it's borderline ruining the NBA. But it's done, I do get that.
In this case, I thought Crabtree may have initiated the contact in order to separate himself and create space for the throw/catch (so i definitely wouldn't have call illegal contact on the DB.
But when he went to separate himself from the DB, the DB held him with both hands. There's your penalty.
For the record, had Crabtree pushed off and made the catch, I would have said throw the flag on Crabtree.
