(Editing the thread title for tonight's showdown. FYI, original title was "Amazing buzzer beater by my Wright State Raiders!")
Yeah I am fluffing them up, but I am very proud of favorite team 1A tonight as Wright State's Miles Dixon makes an unbelievable shot against Detroit to advance to the Horizon League Championship.
BTW the Raiders were picked to finish dead last in the Horizon League this year and head coach Billy Donlon was named Horizon League Coach of the Year.
Yeah they aren't the Buckeyes but since they are in Ohio and I love them I am posting this!

Hell yeah! I am a graduate of Wright State and it is great to see them doing well. Its been 6 years since we have made it to the Big Dance, just got to beat the winner of Valpo & GB. WSU > UD!!

GB was playing Valpo tough but Valpo has a 5 point lead at half. If GB beats Valpo then Wright State will host the championship game on Tuesday.
And yes WSU>UD!
Name from the past for me, Billy Donlan..He played down here at UNC-Wilmington, then was an assistant here under Brad Brownell. Tell you how smart UNCW is, Brownell did very well here at UNCW, they even beat USC in the NCAA tourney one year. He was due for a contract extension/raise, UNCW played hardball, not wanting to give him a raise to a whopping $150k/year. He left, went to Wright State, did well there, then got hired at Clemson. On the flip side, UNCW is on their 2nd coach since Brownell left, paying the current coach over $300k/year and they SUCK!!
They didn't know what they had, now they "think" they have a good "name", Buzz Peterson, because he's friends with Michael Jordon (who gave him a rousing endorsement), yet they are terrible....

Go Raiders! Hope they win 1 more and get in the dance.
UD > WSU it's not even close.
Donlon has done a great job with losing six players off of last years team and one of them logged big mins from coach cal at UK
but i think the team chemistry is so much better this year and best of big u r oh so right on Brownell====good coach but Clemson
is great for the $$$$ but just not a bball school at all and clemson has now come to dayton to get their last two coaches
Brownell is a very good coach and if he can get the program going at Clemson should move on
BuckeyeBlood, why not prove that statement on the court they should play each other every year, maybe it is closer now that UD
is on the outside looking in at the new catholic bball league
It was a sweet shot, from a very difficult angle

Well if UD would stop acting like pansies and resume the Gem City Jam we would know! But ever since UD started ducking WSU the only explanation that can be conceived is UD is chicken.
I can't think of very many other cities that have two D1 programs that don't play annually. But after 1997 UD decided they had had enough of Wright State.
It's too bad, it was a fun rivalry.

LOL. This is why UD still has good attendance. Delusional fans.
UD can draw big enough crowds to do home-home series with ONLY quality opponents. Sorry, but WSU doesn't fit that bill and except for the once-a-decade occurrence where WSU is decent, no one in Dayton cares about that game.
Pet peeve when people say "they must be scared". Be an educated sports fan and follow the money. The answer always lies there.
UD is scared of WSU because they are worried WSU would steal away some of their fans. Once in a decade good? WSU had only had a couple losing since Brownell took over . WSU is certainly much better than a bunch of the crap teams in the A10.
Bottom line is it was great for the city of Dayton and UD realized WSU was a threat to the local basketball fans and backed out of it.
THIS. UD doesn't want to waste a possible home game by playing wright state home and home when they could play someone like Illinois State or in the past Creighton or USC or a number of schools. Wright state isn't high profile like those schools are. UD also puts 12,500+ in the seats every game while WSU puts like 3,000+. I went to the nutter center to watch some high school games last weekend and they put more people in the seats than WSU does. UD has made it to some sort of postseason tourney every year since I can remember. The only one I can think that WSU made was in 07 when they went to the NCAA tourney. So yeah, reason why they don't play is because of money and I stick to my UD>WSU statement. Oh, and btw, when is the last time that WSU won a game in the NCAA tourney? Or won any kind of tournament? (NIT, CBI, etc.)
Oh really? WSU better than a bunch of those A10 'crap teams'? If you look at RPI, WSU has a better RPI than only 3 A10 teams. And the fact that you think that WSU would steal fans from UD is laughable. Also, go look at the competition that WSU plays. The horizon has 2 teams in the RPI top 100, the A10 has 10....Why don't you research a little bit before you make ignorant statements like this.

Illinois State is a high profile team? Weird, you say UD does home and home series with high profile teams like ILL State, but I guess you forgot WSU did a home and home with ILL State a couple years back as well.
So there goes that theory of yours Buckeye Blood.
It is not hard to figure out. When the Gem City Jam began UD thought they would wipe the court with WSU. But when WSU started winning some of the games in the series, UD thought of an exxuse not to play them anymore. And UD fans have been using the same tired excuses ever since.
Ha ha ha - How does both UD and WSU playing Illinois St refute his point about UD playing home-and-home against better competition? You need to slow down and think a little before you reply. Buckeye Blood's argument stands while yours was a total fail in reading comprehension.
Absolute delusion. OSU must be scared to play UC in football too, huh?

Illinois State is more high profile than WSU is. Just because they had a home and home doesn't mean that they are on WSUs level of competition. So yeah, I really don't know what you're trying to get at there. Also, check the last time that WSU had a really good team come to the nutter center besides butler. When's the last time they had a top 25 team there?
so u r saying that UD currently is that much better of a program? historically, a resounding yes, but not so much the last 12-15 years
i have no true allegiance to either, but grew up with UD hoops and have now lived in dayton for 25 years but most UD fans do have an
unrealistic view of the recent past for UD, and the Nutter Center would be packed for that game, hell there are number of UD fans who
live closer to the Nutter Center than the arena
I did not see a good arguement for this game not to be played and the Miami Valley hoops scene is awesome and would be showcased
by such a game as ESPN would most likely pick up the game
Oh well arguing with Dayton fans is pointless. They fail to see reason and have been ducking WSU ever since 1997. You thUD fans can have the last word I won't respond anymore.
Wright State is one game away from an NCAA Tourny bid and UD will be lucky to even win a game in the A10 tournament.
Go Buckeyes and go Raiders!
The reason is money. I don't know why no one understands that. Money runs college sports. The nutter center would be packed with UD fans and a few wright state fans. Lets get real here, WSU puts like 3k in the stands for a home game.
Yeah, WSU might win he horrendous horizon that will get one bid and UD might lose their first game in the A10 tourney. The A10 will send at least five to the NCAA tourney and this is the best that the A10 has ever been.
