UD fans, can you find another party to crash? I grew up rooting for UD (Roosevelt Chapman leading the Flyers to the Elite 8 in 1984, etc). There was no conflict of interest because Wright State was still D-II. I still try and pull for the Flyers, but people like some of the posters in this thread make it really difficult at times.
Here's the deal: UD was an established good/great college basketball program before Wright State University even existed. WSU didn't open until 1967. That very same year the Dayton Flyers went all the way to the NCAA national championship game (where they fell to UCLA).
Of course UD is going to have a much bigger fan base and a lot more money! But give Wright State some respect for what its been able to accomplish in a short period of time. And whether you want to admit it or not, it's absurd that UD and WSU don't play every year.
Dayton fans are some of the best and most-loyal in the nation. They pack UD Arena (or close) every game. I remember in the 90's there was a season when Dayton only won 8 games. They were still top-10 nationally in attendance. It was an amazing stat. A team from the A-10 who won 8 games was out-drawing big-time programs with good records. That was the best example of Dayton fans being some of the best in the nation. It's easy to draw well when you're winning (well, unless you're Wright State) but to average over 12,000 fans a game during an 8-win (20+ loss) season was amazing.
Easy there, thread police. If all that was being discussed was WSU basketball, you might have a point. But the posts quickly switched to "calling out" UD. I think it is perfectly reasonable to comment on those.
You, being one of my favorite posters, get a pass. Ha. No, in all seriousness, there were some other posts that were just flat-out disrespectful and ignorant. One guy said something about how Wright State has only made two NCAA Tournament appearances, "ever." Yep, that's amazing for a mid-major program that was D-II until 1987. I'm shocked they don't have 10.
Getting to two NCAA tourneys in such a short period of time since turning D-I is solid. Wright State has a program that has consistently won over the last 7 years. 5 20-win seasons, one 19-win season (and one bad 13-win season -- last year). It's a good little program. Is it on par with UD or even close? No. Will it ever be? No. As I said earlier, UD was a proven good/great college basketball program before Wright State even existed as a school. You don't see many schools that were established as late as 1967.
(Little known fact: Wright State was initially used as a branch campus for both Ohio State and Miami U. Then in '67, WSU became its own institution. One other name that was considered was "Southwest Ohio University." Uh, I think they made the right call. Honoring the Wright Bros. was the right move. I just wish we didn't have a wolf for our damn mascot when our nickname is the Raiders. Haha.)

If you're in the Dayton-area, WSU head coach Billy Donlon will be on 1410 ESPN Radio at 5:10 today with Mark Neal.
I'll be on around 5:25 or 5:30.
T-minus 2 hours and counting. Who's ready to see Wright State in the Big Dance!?
I am absolutely pumped for the game tonight! It would have been ever more sweet if Valpo wouldn't have made the three at the buzzer to keep the championship game in Indiana, but I feel like the Raiders can beat them.
WSU kept it close against Valpo both times they played, and let's face it; Valpo isn't Butler.
I could very well see WSU as a 14 seed playing a 3 seeded OSU IF WSU wins tonight!
Man I'd really love it if WSU got in. It'd be an amazing season, especially considering they were picked to finish dead last in the HL.
Look for Yoho to light it up tonight!
This Wright State alum says, Go Raiders!!!
Raiders are an 8-point underdog.
Well, this one is over early.
Still a great season. Next year will be incredible (hopefully).
We look like a damn high school team. A shitty one.
Not so fast Dave, we are making a run.

Arceneaux heard me chirpin'. He's taken over the game in the last few minutes. Let's hope this continues. 8-0 WSU run cuts Valpo's lead to 18-14.

Well, that didn't last long.
I hope these dorks from Valpo have fun next year when they lose all five starters.
Hey there's another half. Wright State will either make a run or Valpo will blow the door wide open. But I wouldn't give up quite yet.
And you Dave you're right, next year WSU should be a preseason favorite to win the HL, and Valpo is losing all starters.
Here we come!
Let's go Raiders!
Final: Valpo 62, Wright State 54.
Oh well, great season. And everyone on the team is returning next season, plus they will be getting the Butler transfer, Hopkins. Future is bright.
