Muschamp, royalty? Muschamp is not in the same league as Saban and Meyer. This kid must have really wanted to be a gator because Saban and Meyer are the best, Muschamp still has a lot to prove. The OSU depth chart would have let him step right into the job, sounds like he may be on the bench for a while at FL.

He didn't change his mind immediately. Offers came on Monday, decision on Thursday.
So if you made a big life decision and at the last minute a better opportunity for yourself and family presented itself, you wouldn't take it? That isn't being dishonest, that is doing what is best for you, that's life. This doesn't appear to have been done maliciously, if so then its a different story.
Most of us don't understand the choices these kids have to make....we didn't get scholarship offers for sports. We didn't have an and expiring clock to make our college choices.
With the offensive juggernaut Coach Meyer is building...I'd probably get more upset with losing a good Sousaphone Player in TBDBITL than a punter....
We have options...
"Your Mouth Keeps Signing Checks that Your Body Can't Cash"
Good luck to Mr Townsend, not gonna lie he must be good to get those scholarship offers. On the other hand, can't we find a local kid that is going to Ohio State anyway that can effectively punt the ball? Isn't Frank E a punter? I might also have some eligibility, is their an age limit? ha ha
Eddie George, Simply the best
I respect his decision. Timing just seemed like it was difficult. If there was an Ohio kid that committed to Florida and then was offered by OSU a few days before signing day and flipped, we'd all understand. The kid isn't classless. I think a bigger question is how in the hell is there not a kid of Townsend's caliber in Ohio? Every single year there should be at least one kid from Ohio that is worthy of an Ohio State offer.
There's several Ohio punters that can boom the ball. I'd ask em if they are interested in being preferred walk-ons.
Kyle Bergman in Coldwater averaged 40 yards a punt, boomed a 72 yarder as well
The thing is...there may be that caliber player in Ohio...but they all signed LOIs on Wednesday when we were expecting to be getting a punter! Josh Brebant was the leading punter in Ohio last year (43 yards per punt), but he signed an LOI with Northern Illinois Wednesday.

Florida has 29 signed commits (with #30 pending) and they have an upcoming junior punter who happens to be a Ray Guy finalist.
Given the above, it is really hard to understand why Florida would want to use up a scholarship on another punter.
I just hope the Townsend family doesn't end up footing the $12,270 instate, live at home UF tuition when someone decides Johnny Townsend needs to gray-shirt.
My only issue with this, if we had known much earlier, would we of offered someone else, say another WR like Timmons? The timing sucks and you would think the family would have this discussion upon return from his OV and knowing the distance to Cbus from Fla.
Eagle scouts preach honor, integrity, etc. The kid obviously didn't learn anything from it.
This all leaves me with just ONE very compelling question:
WHo writes an ENTIRE article on an effing PUNTER!??
Oh yeah, and who effing cares.
We don't want undecideds here anyway. Good luck JT.
You just lost out on playing for one of the great head coaches out there. By the way, Florida will not win anything. Won't win an SEC championship OR an NC.
The Father, The Son... well, it's the
The Holy Trinity... as I see it.
Because he was presented with a better opportunity at the last minute? One that you don't like, so he has no integrity?
These are awful harsh accusations to an 18 year old, that none of us know and whose decision doesn't affect any of us in our personal lives.
It would be one thing if be had all these opportunities in front of him for 6 months and switched out of the blue last minute. He didn't though. Florida was a last minute offer, so he had to make a last minute decision.
I dont think any of us are mad but as another poster said, theres a right way to do this. Stringing people along who had faith in you for months is not cool. Im sure we will survive without this kid. In fact given the way things finished having his scholly is a blessing IMO. Ive been through this process with family members and its one thing to waiver as the date gets close, its another to just not show up as expected. As a man (or woman) your word should mean something. I find it hard to believe that Florida showed up Tuesday with an offer. If they had a small class or somebody unexpected bailed ok maybe but they they took a lot of kids so they knew how much room they had (or could make).

My thoughts EXACTLY!! Step away from the ledge and read the absolute garbage you are posting before you bash a kid for changing his mind and going to his dream school. Who the hell could blame him?? Frankly, I'm thankful for guys that flip otherwise we wouldn't have Dontre!!
Don't be a hypocrite!
better left unsaid.

Never made Eagle Scout but I did make Life Scout. The very first part of the Scout Law is:
A scout is trustworthy, loyal...
Totally disagree. It's not like he had all 3 of these offers for the last 6 months, stringed us along and then left us at the alter. This all happened on Monday - 2 days before signing day. Does it suck for us, yes. But I respect the decision that was made and can't fault him for it.
