Saturday is Student Appreciation Day
Busses will shuttle students to the Woody from the RPAC and Ohio Union starting at 9:45 a.m.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Last year’s Student Appreciation Day that Ohio State coach Urban Meyer initiated started at the terribly early Saturday morning hour – for college students – of 9 a.m. and still several thousand showed up for and took part in one of the most exciting practice atmospheres in Ohio State history.
This Saturday Meyer and his staff and team will hold a second Student Appreciation Day beginning at 11 a.m. at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Ohio State students with a valid BuckID (and since this is “Sibs & Kids Weekend” on campus, their sibs/parents who have an official “Sibs & Kids” wrist band) can enter the Woody through the Biggs Lobby beginning at 9:45 a.m.
Busses will start transporting students from the Ohio Union and the RPAC to the Woody beginning at 9:45 a.m. They will continue to run throughout the morning and early afternoon to get students back on campus after the practice.
Meyer wants the facility supercharged with excitement and packed with students, and so he has added some features to the day. Here are some details:
For. Students. Only.
Food! Vendors/food trucks will be on site;
Fun! Fan experience inflatables will be set up (football throwing and kicking games, etc.);
Field goals! One student will be selected to kick a field goal during a “live” placement attempt;
Far out! Students will be able to line up across the field at the 40 yard line to watch practice;
Meet & Greet! Post-practice will be an opportunity to meet the Buckeyes and coaches;
Music! Live entertainment will be in the Woody; and a
Photo opp! A group photo with the players will close the event, similar to last year.
“I want the students on our side,” Meyer said Monday to a trio of representatives from The Lantern, Ohio State’s school newspaper. “They’re the ones that create atmospheres in stadiums. I’d love to see thousands of students here [Saturday].”
A later start time may just give Meyer his wish.
Practice No. 9 Notes…
The Buckeyes practiced indoors today, practice No. 9 of 15 this spring. The team was outdoors the previous two practices. … Coach Urban Meyer confirmed today that third-year offensive lineman Antonio Underwood has a knee injury and will be out for the season. He has not had a red-shirt year, yet, so he’ll have two seasons of eligibility starting with the 2014 campaign. … It was a pretty intense practice, with quarterback Braxton Miller taking a decent pop on one play that incited activity on both sides of the ball. … The offense was declared the winner on this offense/defense day. … Numerous established upperclassmen – Bradley Roby, Carlos Hyde, Jordan Hall, Jack Mewhort and Corey Linsley – were held out of the scrimmage action so younger players could play. … Meyer said Pat Elflein has emerged as a candidate for the vacated right tackle position, along with Taylor Decker and Chase Farris.
The Underwood injury could be for up to 6 months or so, leaving a chance he could maybe be back at midseason, according to an update from OSU
