I want to give some props to Deshaun as he will be overlooked with all the improvement going on with this team.
He has really struggled with his shot the second half of the year. He is getting crazy attention and the opposition is making it very hard for him. But he seems to be under more control, taking reasonable shots, complaining less, doing a really solid job on the boards, and even showing some improved defense and quickness.
There was one play today in particular. He caught the ball at the top of the key. Had a reasonable 3 point shot. He faked the shot then drove hard to the hoop past a couple of defenders and laid it in. I can't recall him making that type of move in the past 3 years. It is nice to see him continue to grow and mature and improve his overall game, even though he is struggling with his shot.
He is going to bust out with a 30 point game somewhere in the tournament. I can feel it coming. I hope he sticks around to cap off a wonderful career with an incredible senior year.
Laid a beauty of a pass to Amir on a faked jump shot as well, but Amir fumbled it.
I'm happy with his attitude and leadership as well. Hes had ample opportunities to be a "me, me me" guy, especially with our scoring struggles at times, but he has been a team player and even bought in defensively.
I wouldn't hold your breath about him sticking around, even though I don't really see what makes him that special at the next level.
So long as he works within the offense a few erratic shots are fine - he's going to make some of them, and could get hot and go off on that 30 pt ge you referenced. Was surprised to see him so laid back an all smiles when Kerr was interviewing him. I realize he just won the B1G tourney, but he was so jovial.
Would love to see more slashing to the basket - or dribble drive into that 12' pull-up. Hate the contested 3 - it never goes in.
You can't handle the truth
We are coming for you Bama!
DT's deep shoting has suffered as the season has gone on. The long season has worn on him. DT hasn't let it get to him and he is still doing well with other parts of his offense.
Craft and Thompson have added some offense to their game so that really helps. If Ross can keep coming along, that will help relieve Thomas from having to carry the burden so much. Then DT might get to take a few more "relaxed" shots than he's been getting.
To my mind one of the best things on Bucknuts are the videos of the football and basketball press conferences.
If you have watched any of Thomas' pre-game basketball videos you would see that what he did after the championship games was not remarkable in that regard. Thomas is not all that articulate (Thompson is super articulate, followed by Smith and Craft), and that usually puts me off. However, I always smile and usually laugh when he talks. Not because he says stupid things; he doesn't. He just has such energy and joy.
For example, the reporters love asking him questions about shooting the ball and scoring, because he gets this big, dopey grin on his face. He knows his reputation for having never seen a shot he didn't like, and he has fun with it. He says something to effect of "Yeah, I'm a scorer and that's what scorers do." But he says it with such self-awareness and verve that everybody in room laughs.
He just seems like a great kid who loves OSU, his coaches and teammates, and playing basketball, though probably not in that order.
Thomas is a load when he is in the low post or to any side of the basket right outside the paint.....Matta needs to set him up more there and he will score....if he don't hit it, they will foul him...also he is great on follow-up shots and tips......I like to see him hit that long 3, but I think he gets tired legs as the game goes on and he doesn't get the lift he needs.....he is money at the FT line however! If ever have played the game you know how hard it to average 19-20 points a game!
