  • This was how ESPN referred in their intro to Sports Center this morning the Luke Fickell presser yesterday. I don't raise this in any way to start another "bash ESPN" thread. Those annoy the he'll out of me. And had I not read all the coverage here perhaps I would have been intrigued by the headline and waited for the story.

But especially after watching the presser I am beyond belief that this is how ESPN would choose to cover the story as a lead on Sports Center. Not surprised, just appaled. Already inherently labeling Fickell as someone in the know about the program's transgressions and completely ignoring what the coach had to say.

Am I making more of this than I should or is it a fair question to ask why ESPN would choose to imply that Fickell knew about everything that was going on but chose to turn a blind eye?

ESPN wants Urban at OSU. They have a relationship with him. They know if they do everything they can to influence OSU to clean out the staff and Urban gets the job, they'll have much greater access to a program that garners great ratings everytime the Block O is on TV. JT didn't let them in. He didn't give them great quotes or interviews. Urban will. That's what all this boils down to for ESPN. Getting their own guy as HC the biggest program on the Big Ten Network, and they then have their hands in everthing that is College Football. Once Urban is the HC, the negative press on OSU will stop.

This is quite the "conspiracy theory" but I honestly can see it. It just shows what the college football world has come to. I feel like this upcoming NCAA "summit" to discuss the future of D-1 athletics has potential to make a great impact. I doubt it..but I can only hope.

    Excellent analysis.

This is why many on this board fuck'n hate ESPIN they twist turn manipulate in so many way's!!!!
Honestly the only ones that may be worse is Fox Sports. I firmly believe that they are just loving every minute of this and will probably continue to bash him just so th dumb ass board of trustees will remove Fick. These people are seriously sick and demented who cherrish the thought of the chaos they feel they have the power to cause.Alot of people get angry with Spiels and Herbie and they do work for espin but i do think when they give there opinions they are pretty honest they did play here and I don't think they would intentionaly hurt the program hell Herbie was right about pryor.

  • I think ESPN is doing us a favor. What's wrong with having a coach that answers questions? What's wrong with a coach that gives all access passes? What's wrong with a coach that has developed recent first round picks on the OL?

I feel like ESPN is the parent. Remember growing up and your parents did things that you hated but end up being best for you in the long run? ESPN is giving tough love but when we get Urban or Bo we are going to enter into a golden era of OSU football. It's tough now but guys we are going to be alright.

Right now I'm in the Fickell camp...

But lets not blame Meyer for ESPN's actions. If Urban Meyer became our Head Coach we would be quite fortunate.

If its a matter of of OSU's admins caving to ESPN, then harbor poor impressions of them for being manipulated. But Meyer remains innocent. And in the end, we still have a decent coach. So I will be pleased either way.

I am 100% behind Fickell. But a consolation prize of Meyer, pushed by ESPN or not, is quite a prize.

  • Tough love? Acting like a parent? Alpha, are you serious with this post? Holy cow.

Look, we all know you are an SEC homer and a Meyer leg humper. No secrets there. However, you know nothing about Fickell. No on does since he has not had an opportunity yet to prove himself. Stop being childish and bashing him on every thread. I am not opposed to Meyer to OSU, but I think Fickell has earned his chance at the helm.

By the way. Zero chance OSU goes after Bo Pelini. ZERO!

I'm childish? Guarantee there is more threads on this board bashing ESPN then me telling the absolute truth about fickell.

  • Maybe Urban is puttin them all up to it!!!

Seriously guys... nice conspiracy theory, but i doubt it.

I think "conspiracy theory" is a stretch. Although I think some may be making it out to be that way. I don't think ESPN is going to great links or anything to covertly implement Meyer into OSU like the Illuminati. But I do think ESPN has chosen a clear preference. I think that ESPN may slightly be pushing for Meyer. While maybe unintentional, I think its happening. And I think OSU admins could be so weak and broken at this point that they may cave to ESPN.

  • Very fair question...I am not naive to believe all the coaches did not discuss transgressions or possible violations behind closed doors at the Woody...they live there 12-16 hours a day...the media accuses JT that he should of known about the goings on of the players, so why not all the assistants who spend just as much time around the facility and have more face time with the players ? The online poll shows 77% believe Fickell knew something...and I know this is influenced by ESPN reporting...right or wrong, the court of public opinion does not believe Fickell or OSU. Fair or unfair, the media will most likely influence who is the next coach here...just the crazy society we live in.

  • Had a friend of mine [ who is a big Nebraska fan ] in church Sunday, tell me that Urban has bought a house in Columbus. I told him not true, it has been said that he has bought 6 or 8 houses all around Cbus. He also told me to stay away from Bo.
