I want to see us in the Natty against Bama.
Urban has had only 2 years to bring in the talent he wants.
Saban has had 4 - 6(if you go by the over signers believers) to have the talent he wants.
So realistically can we match up with them?
What say you?
People don't wanna hear it, but no not yet. I think if we played them this year they'd win by a few scores. Their offense is just too damn explosive with Yeldon and Cooper. And they have a great defense too
The only positive I see is that most Alabama fans say they are not as strong on the d-line as they would like to be. Other than that they are stacked at almost every other position, where as we have a lot of good players but still have some holes to be filled.
I think that we could put up points on them for sure. We would hang around with them for a while, but I think that they would wear us down and Yeldon would start abusing us.
We aren't ready defensively. It would come down to whether or not we could outscore them. They probably won't face a QB like Miller all year though, so that could be an X-factor for us. Don't even say Manziel, he scrambles well but can't run the designed run plays like a RB, like Miller can. I wouldn't bet money on us beating them though, not THIS season at least.
Why wouldn't we match up? We recruit the same players. Look at their offer lists. We both pull in top classes. Even before Meyer OSU was recruiting well landing at least in the top 15 year after year.
My question wouldn't be if we can match up but why wouldn't we be able to? From a player to player standpoint OSU is as good as anyone in the country. We don't play second fiddle to nobody. I think Meyer is a better coach.
"The only thing That Team Up North will be tasting this year is the salty tears of defeat" - UFM
You are only looking at recruits from the past two classes. We don't match up because most of our players who match up with Bama's players are freshman and Soph. In a year or two, Yes, we will match up with them man for man talent wise. Did Bryant, Barnett, Fields, Bogard, Worley, Powell, Hyde, Lindsley have offers from Bama? No. Do you feel those guys are as good as what Bama will have at the same respective positions? Personally, for the most part I don't. The point is that we do have Bama type talent, but most of them are too young yet. Bama has that type of talent who are Juniors and Seniors.
you can't just play the "match up game" and say because we can't out-athlete bama position by position that we wouldn't beat them. analyze last year's louisville and florida rosters, then watch the sugar bowl. you don't need to be better than another team, just good enough to execute the right gameplan. we will be good enough this year.
Not sure why everyone has Bama in, other than recent history.
They lost 3 OL, OL continuity can take time, and they lost some good defensive players.
The past few years the teams to beat Bama, had the spread/zone read and speed to the edges with skilled players to attack their more jumbo size outside guys, teams like Meyer's Utah in the Sugar Bowl, Auburn with Malzahn as the OC and Texas A and M last year, excluding LSU.
Me, I think Alabama loses at Texas A and M, hard tough road venue and Manziel, the TAMU team speed on both sides of the ball, and their attacking mindset beats Alabama in College Station.
LSU will be no cake walk, should have beaten Bama last year without Miles bone head trick plays that cost him the game.
Last year is Auburn, and Malzahn will have his up tempo fast pace Oregon offense going, and that game is at Auburn.
Throw in the SEC title game, against an East power, I see Alabama losing two games this year.
Georgia can beat Bama, could have easily last year.

Ohio State is not just playing players from the past two classes. Alabama is not playing 100 percent seniors. I do not agree with your argument.
Alabama recruits kids we don't offer as well. Does that mean they aren't good enough to play for Ohio State? Did Braxton Miller have an Alabama offer? Did Ryan Shazier have one? Alabama is not an NFL team. They are not loaded with 22 NFL starters. They have marginal college players as well who will never play a snap in the pros.
Did Texas A&M have "Alabama talent"? Did LSU have it the year before? This whole mythos behind Alabama is lacking a lot of facts because Alabama gets beat in football games. They are not this invincible juggernaught of football destruction you are portraying them to be.
Again, they recruit the same players. The talent is comparable. And there really isn't a credible argument that doesn't involve exaggeration and hyperbole that can dispute it.

I think people have seen how Bama has been able to reload after massive talent losses to the NFL over the last few years. a&m will take a step back this year after losing two stud OL and they don't have a great defense either. You know that one of the two teams in the NCG WILL be an SEC team and Bama has to be the pick to win the SEC. I mean you could sit here all day and find reasons why any team could take a step back this season. Do you think Bama's OL departures are a bigger disadvantage than our DL departures?
While I think Yeldon will be a good back, they did lose 3 starters from that O-line from last year. So holes wont be as easy to come by. Our D-line will be young but as long as they can hold up for most of the game they should be ok. We have decent depth (minus DT) to have fresh bodies in the trenches, albeit they are young, but bodies non the less. They will try to wear us down with the run game, we need our LB's to be ready to tackle and our secondary CAN'T miss tackles. Now as far as Cooper goes..... all I have to say is Bradley Roby. Need not fret w/ Cooper as much with Roby back there. Roby can shut down anyone in America.
The X factor(s) that scares me is the opposite side DB going against the freshman Black, dude can fly as well. And who will go against O.J. Howard at TE from our LB Corps. But even so, OJ is only a frosh as well. If we can shut down Cooper which Roby can.... and play well enough against the run, I think we have a shot for sure. We can put up points against anyone, including Bama. So it comes down to who wants it more and if we can get the amount of stops needed to pull it off.
IN URBS I TRUST!!!
***Buckeye Til I Die***
Gentlemen that's why we play the games! We can speculate till we turn blue in the face, but till those teams line up against each other.....nobody knows!
In the words of the late great Colonel Sanders "I'm too drunk to taste this chicken!"
Simon was a tweener and Williams played on one leg due to his wrecked knee. Hankins is about the only person we lost who is going to change anything. In spite of Simon's effert, which was hurculean at times, he was still not the prototypical size and was limited athletically compared to his replacement in either Washington or Bosa. We never had a great edge rusher like Spence last year who could pressure the QB all on his own. So in ways I believe the line has been upgraded. My only question is the middle but that is an unknown and not a upgrade/downgrade.
Next to QB's offensive linemen have the highest rate of washing out in college. So do I think they are at a bigger disadvantage replacing proven offensive linemen verses our defensive linemen? Yes I do. They lost 3 starting defensive lineman as well.
Three NC in four years and WAY more 1-3 round draft picks than the Buckeyes during those years says otherwise. Those are the facts man, you can't deny it. When is the last time you saw Bama give up 49 points to a team like Indiana? Take off you scarlet colored glasses. If you can't tell the difference in the level that Meyer is recruiting at vs the level Tressel was recruiting at I don't know what to tell you. Meyer needs another 1-2 years recruiting at the current rate to get us to Bama's level. What happens if Miller or Shazier gets hurt? Our depth and experience just isn't there yet. That doesn't mean that we couldn't play a great game and pull off a win against Bama. The point is that they probably beat us in seven out of ten times.
TAMU's defense is fast and good, Snyder gave Bama fits with blitzes and so did their team speed, like the last interception where the CB baited the Bama QB for an easy pick once he broke on it.
The final 70% of the season, TAMU was as good as anyone, they crushed a 10 win Oklahoma by 4 TD's to end the season.
And like you and your fear obsession of the SEC, no a SEC team is not guaranteed a spot, that trend will stop, but you keep sitting there fearing them and buying the media obessions.
Georgia goes to Clemson, Florida plays FSU and Miami, South Carolina has Clemson, the SEC East champ could easily have two losses going into the SEC title game.
Watch Ok State beat Miss State OOC the first weekend in Houston, and Texas beat Ole Miss two years in a row, when they beat them in Austin, Oregon should destroy Tennessee, a lot of "supposed" SEC myths and OOC myths could go down the drain the first month of the season.
Bama will lose two games, you come back with your "fear factor" posts in December and revisit this, and once Texas A and M beats them against and Sumlin's up tempo offense tears the Tide apart again, please come back as well.
You were posting the same stuff about the 2002 Miami squad I am sure, seeking cover and shelter.
And those years are over. History doesn't play the football games. Those teams are gone so using them in an argument about today's matchups doesn't really hold water.
Are you really downplaying the loss of Simon, the B1G defensive player of the year? We have recruited well on the DL however, going back to my original argument, THEY ARE ALL STILL YOUNG. Bama has recruited well on the OL too. Also, I see the potential of Spence, but he hasn't shown that he is an all-world WDE yet. He needs more than an outside speed rush and needs to be able to play the run. I'm from the SHOW-ME state.
Clemson went up tempo, just like TAMU did when they beat Bama, and they gassed and gutted an elite LSU defense.
Bama never moved the ball up and down the field like that vs. LSU, not even close. They play a lot of offensive poor teams in the SEC, and win by defense. Clemson, just like TAMU, showed how an up tempo spread offense with dual threat QB's can wear out and run all over defenses like Bama and LSU last year.
Heard the same thing with the 2002 Canes and their 34 game win streak.
Florida had a run like that with Meyer, with two national titles and 13-1 with a Sugar Bowl in between.
I guarantee you TAMU, Sumlin and Manziel expect to go up tempo, and gas Bama, wear them down and beat them in College Station.
LSU ain't backing down either.
Auburn will have the same OC and offense in Malzahn, that gave Saban's fits and beat him round one at Auburn.
Georgia knows they can beat Alabama.
The people brainwashed they are unbeatable, if Oregon and Kansas State both do not lose late, Alabama was not even in the national title game for goodness sakes.
Haha man I don't have a fear of the SEC. I am a realist and see the level that Bama has been playing vs the level we have been playing at. I have always said that beyond the top 3-4 teams the SEC dominance idea is overstated. I saw an OSU team that was very fortunate to go undefeated last year but with potential to be very good in the future. We just aren't all the way there yet. I don't think we get blown out by Bama but I would put my money on Bama to win that match up. Why is that opinion so outrageous? Just look at our recent draftees if you want to see where the talent level has been at OSU in recent years and why i feel that we need 1-2 more great classes to get where we need to be.
JT, I respectfully disagree...keep in mind, the only team to beat them last year, at home no less....Johnny football. Brax and him are quite similar and I think Brax, especially this year with a better passing year, we can hang with them. I do think they would be gassed by the 4th qtr on D with our spread and you know Urban would keep it at Jet pace all game.....this way their depth is negated a bit....also, Roby on Cooper, it's a wash, and a match up I would love to see. So yes, I think we can hang with them, and by the NCS game, the frosh know what they are doing, and that is a huge speed upgrade to this Offense. I like our chances.
I like our chances. We could beat them. I don't even think it is much of a stretch for them to do it either. I really like our defense a lot. I'm looking forward to seeing Washington and Spence play full time and see their impact. Bennet is a gamer as well.
I hope the game happens. We'll see if Alabama is good enough to get there.
No way Bama loses to Texas A&M this year. If they only win one game.........it will be A&M. Saban and company are extremely motivated to put an ass whippin on them. I work in Bama. Born a Buckeye. Love the Bucks. AJ is going to have a monster year. I think we will see them in the natl champ game but I do not think we have the quality depth yet to beat them. Bama is 3 to 4 deep. That is the advantage Saban has due to 3 straight years of outstanding classes.
Nobody is brainwashed that they are unbeatable... but with five weeks to prepare they have proven to be pretty damn close. We aren't playing them in a regular season game. The question was "are we ready to beat them in the NCG?". My answer was no, not yet. Sound irrational? No. We need our talent to gain experience. If you think we can beat them with Bryant and Barnett at safety, YOU my friend are the delusional one.
The key would be to get ahead of Bama and make them one dimensional, they only have one big threat throwing (Cooper) if we get behind they could run it down our throats. But I would give the emotional edge to the Bucks because the media will be blasting us that we dont have a chance, similar to 2002 against Miami. That edge and starting fast would be the key, Bama is very good but remember if we play them we will have a team that has won 25 straight games, and that would be hard to bet against.
