OK smart guy, I'll bite....please tell us all how the bowl losses are going to matter.....
Wow!!! I really thought more people thought like me. A stronger and deeper big 10 should be what we all want.
"Ohhhh, man I wish I could go back in time. I'd take state."
Want my soul to feel brand new like a fresh coat of paint, we can make it anything but blue anything but blue
Now maybe the scUM malcontents (a.k.a. TOSU haters) who live in Columbus Ohio will finally sit down, shut up and take their rightful place - kings of the realm of mediocrity!

RE: Future looks bright!
We are prime for a Nat'l title run if we can shore up the OL next year and Safety play...those are major spots though...we beat ND early on and let teh fun begin....MSU we beat down too and nobody else scares me...I expect us to play OSU 2 times next year and beat em twice!
While I understand that logic, I don't follow it. In FB, if we lose a game, but win the B1G Championship, I don't see us getting shut out of the playoffs. If we lose two or more, I don't see us going to the playoffs anyway, no matter if we win the Championship or not. If we don't win the Championship, I don't see an invite either. Am I the lone ranger here? In BB, as long as we make the dance, we have a shot. Granted it's nice to be a top one or two seed, but it all boils down to winning six games, right?
In a weak big10 a loss most likely puts us out regardless if we win the conference. We would have been left at this year and we went unbeaten.

First: you should post more often!
Second: Happy New Year
Third: I am not afraid to say I root for all big ten teams in bowl games, precisely for the reason you mention. Reputation/Prestige/Respect.
This means I even root for _ichigan.
► However, it becomes a win-win for me with either outcome. I begrudgingly give them credit if they win. But if they do, my satisfaction is more so that they did not add a loss to the conference tally for that given year.
But if they Lose, I get to enjoy the wrinkled sour faces of the blue and yellow fans I know, for the rest of the year.
I get to hear them defend hoke, I get to see them try hard - once again - to push away discussion of the past year and spout promises of how things are different now... that (the next year) will will be their year... and it starts all over again.
Do I want that team to succeed for the good of the conference? You Bet. We need a strong team in Ann Arbor for the sake of the conference, for our own RPI, and for the rivalry.
The result is now in, and once again, today is a win-win for me.
Being forced to root for them/I hope they win is bad enough. I deserve to enjoy their loss after compromising my hate for them, for one day.
Somewhere Woody just now finally stopped snort-laughing in Heaven and is allowing Bo to get a word in.

Woody and Archie.................................. Alex being Alex, ....................................and Woody at Dennison
South Carolina had the 87th best yards per game offense in the nation, their offense was pretty much Lattimore, and hapless without him. Their defense scored and set up easy scores in the Georgia route, and Connor Shaw and their other QB are nothing elite to write home about, they either make a few plays, make errors or just are better than average.
Michigan was a top 15 defense under Mattison? No.
South Carolina's QB's throwing deep to speed guys exposed UofM's back seven, and without two chippy missed FG's they scored in the 40's. Just like Air Force, OSU, Alabama, Nebraska and Northwestern, the only offenses Michigan faced, all hit them with a lot of yards and points, and pretty much dominated.
Michigan piled those defensive stats up against hapless teams and offenses like UMass, Iowa, Illinois, MSU and Minnesota.
Stats can be deceiving, every good offense Michigan faced gouged them pretty much a lot of the game, and outside of Northwestern giving away a win and Air Force, every team with a offense beat them as well.
bowl losses make the conference look bad in the national perception. Ohio State is part of that conference. National perception drives the polls. So bowl losses are pretty important and matter.

I feel the same as you, I'm not upset Mich lost I just want to see the big 10 respected like it used to be.
when the b10 does good in bowls it is ignored anyway by voters and media. in fact some voters drop b10 teams for winning bcs bowls...may as well root for scumbags like mich and wisky to lose. i have no problem with nw and i like dantonio so it was nice to see those teams win. osu and meyer have so much respect across the country they will almost always get the benefit of the doubt going forward.
Anyways, after today the b10 is 17-21 vs the sec in bowl games in the bcs era:
Stewart Mandel @slmandel
I guess the SEC wasn't "up" for 17 of them. @MattRHinton: Here's your updated B1G vs. SEC bowl record in the BCS era. http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/1941425/01-SECvs_B1G.jpg …
The results were what everyone expected. I think the nebraska game and ScUM game were both pretty good games. ScUM shat their pants in the end. Rex burkhead had 140+ yards rushing against a defense loaded with nfl talent. Maybe the disparity between the leagues is shrinking. I still say who cares? Until the rest of the big quits piggy backing off of osu i could give a shit. OSU will always win and shoot for national titles.
I do not agree with this at all.
And when the big ten does well it is reflected in next years polling. Bowl wins matter. Its not ignored.
I am with you G, and especially like the term 'begrudgingly'! Ideally, all of the other B1G teams win and I would be able to root against the team of North but when the conference needs a win to break .500 for the bowl season, especially against a SEC team, I 'begrudgingly' pull for them to represent our conference well so that we get to hear the pundits say that the B1G was tougher than they thought.
I'm still not buying it...To me it sounds like those who thought osama had a better plan for the economy than Mitt... As for this year, we would have had to win the B1G Championship to be in any NC talk. I don't buy the idea that a 13-0 Buckeye squad wouldn't have gotten the invite. Next year there is a four game playoff. If we are 13-0 or 12-1 and win our Championship, I don't see us getting shut out. Whether the B1G goes undefeated or puts up a goose egg in bowl games...Does anyone see three $ec schools and either ND or a Pac Ten school taking all of the spots? Maybe I'm just wearing Buckeye colored glasses-I DO have four eyes...
