Just turned on STO. They have a game from a few years back..ST. Ignatius vs. Elder. McVey was a Jr. in this game and was completely dominant. Sad. What could have been, Even as a Jr he was 224 lbs and moved like a cat.
Sorry, just realized. D1 state championship game.

Yes I remember watching that game and thinking wow. Unfortunately, injuries started his senior year and never stopped. Otherwise, I don't think we would be talking about a middle linebacker problem right now.
I miss my Kate Upton Picture
Incredible player. Relentless motor. But I'm sorry, he was barely 200 lbs in high school and probably a hair under 6'0. Would have been a great Star or possibly Will linebacker for OSU. No way I see him holding up in the middle as some are suggesting.
He was getting rave reviews as a frosh at tOSU. Very sad.
did you forget how undersized Brian Rolle was? 5'9and3/8'', 229 lbs. Not any bigger than McVey(6'1", 217). And he was a pretty good LB. I remember McVey as a hitter like the Garrett kid in this class. When both of these guys hit you, you're kids feel it. 2 of the best closing LB's I've seen. I'm talking smashmouth. POW!!

north till ya smell it, west till ya step in it.
Rolle is an exception, not the rule. I'm not saying it would be impossible for McVey to play the middle (hell, he would probably succeed at any place you put him), but I want someone with his skill set on the outside. Great pass rusher and equally adept at dropping into the flat to cover.
McVey had another great game in the playoffs his Junior year against Glenville. That game showed how well he could play in space and against some speedy competition. He could have helped this team.
"Playing here is the closest thing to heaven on earth..." - Brian Rolle
me too. some were even saying he would have challenged for a starting position. And that is back when we were strong at LB. I think this year we'll be back up to speed.
That was bullshit, he was not challenging Brian Rolle to start at Mike.
I never heard one report of that. Would love a link to any site that said that.
that was some inside chatter on the scout board at the time. I remember it CLEARLY being talked about how he'd be an early contributor.
And again I didn't say starting. I said "challenge." as in push the starter as in earning playing time. lol geeezzz......relax....
