I taped the Notre Dame themed movie Rudy, that was on TV a few days ago and sit and watched it this week during 2-3 intervals. I had watched it several years ago when it came out on TV, and had pruchased a DVD tape of it(at the time) and gave it to my sports minded grandkids. Dumb me did not realize that the language in the whole movie was different than the "TV version"....ha ha..anyway, I degress.......while like most Buckeye fans who have Notre Shame on their "shike" list, I did have acid reflux creep up into my throat a couple of tims during the movie, but I endured till the end.... and say this.....This movie is really a good example of a young kid persisting to his dream and thru astounding odds, essentially making it!. I know the movie is embelished wiht a lot of things that are needed to make the story play out( the janitor's role, uniforms thrown on desks, Dan Devines's role, etc...) but to the most part was true, about Rudy's efforts and accomplishments. It was kind of an up-lift to me this week during this strange Te-o' escapade!
Have You Seen Rudy? What other Sports Movie did You find Inspiring?

If you do a little online research you will know Rudy himself was a fraud. It suprised me because I loved the movie too.
He also did this
One time I went to NBC and Rudy was playing after a Notre Dame game (almost like a night cap for fans) and then they had paid programming. Aren't those the same things though?
check out bloguin.com or awfulannouncing.com. Follow me @bkoo on twitter.
Not only that, supposedly when Rudy was at Notre Dame and on the team, he was actually a douchebag and none of his teammates actually liked him. Apparently, the movie was made into a feel good story because that was the shit he spoonfed the writers and producers so he could come across as the kid everyone loved and rooted for. Total fraud.
Rudy was a lie. The guy was known as a jackass by many in the program.
"taped". Made me laugh.
Rudy came in the game to replace Gene Smith.
We were duped by the movie... and duped by Te'o
There was a really good movie out a few years ago called "Something for Joey"... A feel good movie about John Cappelleti of Penn State and his relationship with his younger brother, Joey, who died of childhood leukemia.
Yea, SteveS78, I did research about Rudy, and did realize that there were some problems with the script, the story, and the characters in the movie and the real Rudy himself, but I was talking about liking the theme of " constantly failing, and trying and finally overcoming all odds to reach a goal"....I realize that the real Rudy had problems, the story line was written and tweeked to make it what it was...but I liked it anyway for an example of "never giving up".
It would kind of be like, watching OJ Simpson in some of the movies he was in, and then seeing what he turned out to be....I still may have liked the movie,,,but not the real character
the story was about!
Wait... You're just now seeing this movie???
If I'm going to give you a list of sports movies, I don't know where to start? Should I begin with the early 90's and move forward to present day?
I'm all in favor of keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of fools. Let's start with typewriters.
- Frank Lloyd Wright (1868-1959)
Bigjimmie, if you like sports movies about beating the odds, I recommend you check out "Invinsible", a 2006 film about Vince Papale.
Vince was just an average Joe from Philly when tried out for and made the roster for the Eagles.
Wahlberg is excellent in it, but Greg Kinnear is even better as Dick Vermeil.
Plus from what I've read the movie is accurate and Papale isn't a fraud. In fact the final scene from the film shows an actual clip from one of Papale's games.
IMO it blows Rudy away.
Another good one is "Glory Road", which is about the 1966 Texas Western basketball team. The team with an all-black starting lineup (very revolutionary and controversial at the time) overcame racism and did the unthinkable by winning the championship against racist Adolph Rupp's all-white UK team.

I agree. I despise Notre Dame and I know Rudy is a fraud. But the story line is very inspirational. If the move was called Dave and it was USC or Alabama instead of Notre Dame it would have been the same message.
You don't have to be a football or sports fan to appreciate the message of the movie. If you are passionate about something and willing to work as hard as possible to reach that goal, it relates.
I hate that movie. Simply because that F-ing song gets stuck in my head..
The myth of Rudy isn't true. Just like the Gipper story.
Funny you mention that cause it was humming in my head the whole time I was reading this thread.
Sarah sorry about the Herpes.
I never watched it and never will because I hate Notre Dame.
You know Notre Dame had Hollywood in mind for Te'o. Would have been a combination of "Rudy" and "Love Story."
Sad it won't happen now, ain't it?
Remember the titans
Both very good movies. Glory Road was excellent.
Yes I had seen Glory Road and really liked it...I did learn that the coach that did win the championship, came in and won, but not in his first year...it took 3-4 as I recall....someone told me that...and It made a better story for the movie him to win his first year.....and Playmea, I did say in the first part of my original post that "I had seen it several years ago" when it came out of TV......etc.. I just saw it was on earlier this week and taped it....er...excuse me, tippydye, age showing.."recorded" it (ha ha) again .....again I did not care about Rudy's(the real ones) character and life afterward...just what the movie people produced as a "feel good, warm and fuzzy" picture show....er..excuse me "flick"(age showing again)!!!!i
MY OTHER FAVORITES: Coach Carter; Bryan's Song, The Lou Gehrig Story(not sure of title)

I worked with a guy who lived down the hall from Rudy when they were both at ND. He's a Notre Dame grad, huge Irish football fan, and hated that movie.
He said Rudy was an ass that everybody hated in school.
Later heard a radio interview of Joe Montana making fun of Rudy and talking about how that movie isn't remotely true. How his teammates truly viewed the guy, and that he wasn't a fan of it either.

I have always liked "Hoosiers".
Rudy was offsides...
