Quite a few positives in this game, namely all the young guys getting meaningful minutes in a hostile road environment and battling adversity. You see last year against Kansas that we didn't handle that well.
The game was probably lost when Amir and Deshaun (I believe) got confused on the switch out that Kelly got the 3 on. That's OK. He'll learn. That's a teachable moment. So was when Lenzelle tried to jump the screen when Cook got the lay up.
All that said, our guards shot awful and we still hung in there on grit and toughness. Craft and Scott have to hit shots and I'm optimistic they will. If we split the big games at worst against TTUN, Indiana & Mich State this is a 2 seed team. Worst case 3 seed. I'm taking that.
Agreed...remember, a key to this game, we have played a very soft schedule and Duke has played some very tough teams already...that really counts early on in the year....so this is a huge growth moment for this team...
Positives: Amir, played well, was aggressive...Thad told him his mother was fat or ugly...Ross, nice offensive sets and very aggessive, this kid can socre.....Scott, great D and very involved...Thomas, can score on anyone....Thompson, really stepped up his Defense....same as Smith...
Negatives: Scott, too much shooting too soon....2-4 possessions he did too much...Craft, not on his game....Smith, too many shots without passing, Thomas, disappeared....Defense overall, not much rotations...not sure why Ross didn't play more in 2nd half...
Overall, good team effort and lost intensity in second half....credit Duke though, they wanted the 2nd half more than we did.
Shit we have not benefitted from being a #1...we got hosed 2 years ago bro...I'm with you as long as we get a 2 seed. I think we beat Indiana at home. They will be nails at home though.

a few thoughts on this game....
Buckeyes shoot 38% in the game, lead at half, and lose by 5 in arguably the toughest home court in the nation. If they had hit 5 of the easy gimmies in the first half they are up by 15-20. I was pacing in front of the tv for this one, but I am actually not that mad at the outcome. The Buckeyes can ball with anyone, I have no doubt.
I don't know if Duke adjusted or that the Bucks stopped looking for the extra pass, but WAY too much 1 on 1 in the second half. Why were the set plays seemingly non-existent ?
Some point out defensive breakdowns in the 2nd half and I agree, but Sulaimon hit some ridiculous shots in the second half. I mean, guy in his face, off balance shots going in. If you go back and watch, he was the player that continually answered after the Buckeyes had answered a Duke run.
Finally, I have to admit that I think Matta needs to get Ross in more. The only thing I can fathom as to why he doesn't play more is because of his defense, b/c the dude can score.
In the end though, I am encouraged by tonight. The Buckeyes should have won tonight, but they didn't. If they can keep consistent defensive pressure and have an average shooting night, they will be competitive and beat most teams in the country.
One final note, Quinn Cook needs to stop making angry faces. You cannot make those faces when you cannot put more than 2 positive. consecutive plays together.
The CHASE is on...
