Potential Tackles we have for 14
Darryl Baldwin - Senior
Taylor Decker - Junior
Kyle Dodson - Red Shirt Sophomore
Chase Farris - RS Sophomore
Tim Gardner - Sophomore
Evan Lisle - Sophomore
Now, some of them might play as guards, but I think we can get 2 or 3 of them to stand out at tackle.
Meyer and Warriner, I think Ed deserves a lot of credit for his work last year
Since none of us go to practice and specifically observe OL drills, none of us know squat.
What we DO know is that Decker was the backup at RIGHT TACKLE in 2012. We also know that Mewhort is returning as starting LEFT TACKLE in 2013. Because RT is the only open spot next season, logic mandates us to assume that Decker will once again be a RIGHT TACKLE in 2013.
As far as LT aptitude, I'm not so sure how qualified any of us are to start drawing these conclusions. For one thing, Left Tackles don't grow on trees. When you do find one, they aren't exactly always NFL ready "elite" players. The reality is 15% of people are left handed. Thats important on sealing the edge and protecting the backside. Thus, right off the bat, statistically, 85% of all Tackle prospects are naturally fitted or more comfortable in the Right Tackle spot.
To the OP, I am curious what specific elements of Decker (or any of our OL for that matter) are leading you to this conclusion?
I'm all in favor of keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of fools. Let's start with typewriters.
- Frank Lloyd Wright (1868-1959)
"Playing here is the closest thing to heaven on earth..." - Brian Rolle
Plus that doesn't include a couple more studs added to the next class who will be able to provide depth. We'll be fine.
RELAX! Go hug your children, wife, girlfriend or boyfriend. I think we have great coaches and they will coach them up. Get another hobby....
I think the player was pretty talented too. They didn't take a scrub and make him a first round pick.
