I have been subscribed to 247 for about a year now. With that said, my feelings are that there has been a lot of (too much) hype over the hiring of our new coach and his staff to the point that that Coach Meyer and his staff is in no-win situation.
To hear the Buckeye fans talk, Meyer is the second coming of the Messiah. Expectations are so high, no one would be able to reach them. Many fans expected this team to come out of the blocks just blowing out any and all competition
But look at the facts. Last year was a down year to say the least with all the problems the program faced- an interim coach, decommits from players coming in and just general turmoil in Tressel’s dismissal. It was not the best atmosphere to coach players.
Then this year there is a whole new coaching staff and a completely new system to learn. Last year’s freshmen (including Braxton Miller) are basically starting over. Coach Myer has, for all intents and purposes, two freshman classes to deal with.
This season is only 3 weeks old as I write this and the whiners are already lining up to dump on the new coaching staff. Personally, I get tired of listening to the Rich Fousts of this state. Urban has a tough roe to hoe considering he is expected to do better than Coach Tressel. He will have to top a 75 percent overall to beat his winning percentage and will have to go undefeated with a national championship and beat the Wolverines almost every time to beat Tressel. I seriously doubt this will happen.
The Saving grace is that the Big Ten looks week this year, the ESPN types will use that to put us down again. Let's all be patient, the good times are coming!!!

You've been a die hard Buckeye fan, and just now you think expectations are too high?
missing the whole point, sorry for the post.
If we missed it that's on us Ponzie...no need to apologize.
Gotta agree with the other replies... If you have been a die hard Buckeye your entire life, then either your life hasn't been very long or you have never spoken with another Buckeye before.
This is pretty much par for the course. We could have hired Rich Rodriguez and the expectations would still be this high.
Those of us who are capable of logic aren't really all that concerned about this team. We need to see issues on far more of a consistent basis to draw any permanent conclusions. Because of that, we are very much a vocal minority. There are areas that are in need of improvement, but that's really all we can say at this point.
Rest assured, if we don't win a National championship next season, there will be posters who call for Urban's head. If that sounds absurd, that's because it is. But there will be all kinds of arguments supporting their conclusion.
Here is the reality, anything short of a shutout and scoring 50+ points every game is going to upset people. I can be very critical myself, but it takes time to watch the staff and see what our tendencies are over the years before we can truly be informed critics. Thus, anyone who is critical of anyone on this staff right now are working with very limited data. Thats just a fact. Everyone on our staff is new except for Fickell and Vrabel. And even those two were in completely different coaching positions (Fickell was HC and didn't coach a position nor was he DC, Vrabel was coaching LB's because Heacock was coaching DL).
I want to see our team play to their potential. We all do. Currently they are not. Everyone agrees with this. The staff agrees with this. The staff is trying to fix it. Thats all we know. Thats all we can go off of. If we don't see any change or any positive consistency, then we can be critical. But that might take until next season at the earliest.

Don't be sorry - I agree with your thoughts. The level of the hype from November of last year until the beginning of the season was so high that we set ourselves up to be disappointed. I saw it coming a mile away. I'm not hoping for nor predicting a big win each week. As long as we continue to improve from week to week, and win of course, we will get to where we need to be.
I have been saying similar things as the OP since Meyer was hired. The expectations are out of this world and nobody can achieve them. What Tressel did at tOSU was incredible, and people think Meyer will blow his accomplishments out of the water.
Don't listen to Ponzie. It's just another one of his schemes!
Thanks, I'll be here all day. But in all seriousness, I think expectations for this team should be high. The cupboard is never bare at OSU. Last year had to be one of the most talented 6-7 teams I've ever seen. Underachievers, but talented.
