With everything that is on the line this Saturday, from 12-0, to Michigan, to first Meyer/Hoke meeting, to recruits, etc., is this Saturday's game top 5 most impactful games ever? I'm not old enough to really appreciate pre-80's and back, but for me personally, I have to think it is... Right?
No, wouldn't even put it top 5 since 2000. Doesn't mean it's not an enormous game.
I'd put 02 and 06 Michigan above it and the 3 nc games. Not 07 Michigan since we had no realistic hope of getting into the nc game before hand

This games sets the tone for the Urban/Hoke rivalry. Hoke started off strong, but everyone knows it was a down year for the Buckeyes. Now that Ohio State is back to where we were before last year, the question is whether Urban going to continue OSU's dominance, or if Hoke has brought Michigan back to equal footing. Both the media and recruits will take this as a sign that "Michigan is back" if they win this game. A win for OSU could tell the entire conference that Ohio State is still the top dog and will be for the foreseeable future.
This game is a tone setter for the rest of the Meyer-Hoke regimes. Huge game IMO.
I stress the word "impactful"... All those game you mentioned were enormous, obviously...I just think for as many circumstances that surround this game, Ohio State football may be in for one it's greatest runs ever... And this game will be a big part of it
Hard to really say... we dont know what the future will bring us with an unproven coach (Hoke). He could do 2 more years, then leave or be fired....
I'd say since 00', yes this would be in the top 5 though... not 1-3 but probably top 5.
No. As another said, not even top 5 in last 20 years. '95, '96, '02, maybe '03, '06, '07 are easy ones to say were bigger.
But also agree that this sets the tone for Hoke / Meyer. This is the first time since Tressel / Carr that two guys both got it so much (except last year - not saying Fick / Hoke did not, but we were irrelevant). And this could set the stage for a 10 year war....although I think Meyer will dominate.
You can't handle the truth
Top 5 for THE GAME or for all the games we've played?
We are coming for you Bama!
I think the fact this is the last game of the season also heightens this game's importance...after almost every other Michigan game, we had at least a bowl to finish the year off.... Even if we lost to michigan certain years, a bowl victory could help ease the pain and make for a better-feeling offseason... This year, there is no other game... And i know no matter what the 2012 Ohio State football season will go down as a success, but I guarantee you if we lose to Michigan, it won't feel like it anytime soon...
The recruiting impact of this game can't be understated either... Ohio State is playing host to it's biggest, most high profile group of recruits ever... And I know that all these recruits will surely be very impressed with all the hoopla surrounding this game... some people state that the outcome isn't a big factor on lasting impressions from visits... but tell me this: do you think 100,000 fans rushing the field and celebrating throughout the locker room/stadium/streets would leave a better impression than 100,000 quiet/angry fans, and locker room full of long-faced buckeyes who look like their lives just ended? I thought so too... GO BUCKS!!!!!!!
If we are only referring to games in games between OSU and scum, I could see where it could end up being a Top 5 game when we look back at it 5-10 years down the road looking back on hindsight, especially if it does have the affects the OP suggests. Going in, I would have to say no, though its still a crucial game
I really wont say this sets the tone because Urban still needs a year to get his own playmakers on the field.
Sarah sorry about the Herpes.
