It's almost like Americans like sports... Weird. Being a public servant I get your point but when you factor in how much a winning coach brings the school, his salary is justified.
At one time I heard that Navy's head coach was the highest paid federal employee (by far) but it was corrected because he was paid from a 501c3 non profit based from attendance, concessions, etc from the academy and not by the government.
Does Tom Crean really make more than Brian Kelly?
I'm pretty sure ND is private.
This thread is a technicality. Yes they are publicly funded but most athletic departments pay for all of the athletic programs from private donations and ticket sales. Let's not pretend that a university employee is a govt position.
I don't see your point....seems college football is #1....as it should be
Dang... S/O to the New Hampshire Hockey Coach!
Does Billy Donovan really make more than all of the Florida football coaches?
Florida is fake south.
Sarah sorry about the Herpes.
Not sure if it applies to all but I'd bet no state employee generates more revenue for the state then the coaches on this map.
Big time "state" College football coaches run a revenue producing business unit whereas other "state officials" create a big sucking sound and merely spend money they do not have. Government is not a business, it creates no product and the services have very little accountability hence the sucking sound. You are comparing a grape and a watermelon by suggesting the "affairs" of our country are skewed because a public official isn't the higher paid govt worker!!
Too much government interference now as it is and the last thing is more of it.

Yep. Actually full of northerners who moved, big hatian and cuban population too. Haven't heard so much french being spoken since visiting Quebec. Many are from New York.

Coaches are only the highest paid public employees because people have enough . time and money to make it so. Wealth and free time have steadily increased over time in this country since the early 1820s. Sports have always been important. They are fanatical and fun. Pretty sure the highest paid public employees in China and N. Korea are not coaches.
