Inquiring minds want to know why he's the only offered QB at this time--although already committed elsewhere.
I've read interviews, stories, etc. on Watson; but, no evaluations. Having a subscription over there on TOS, I read a post authored by Scott Kennedy, Scouts recruiting director, on his quick evaluation of Watson for the tOSU site (he regularly posts there) ;
"" I put together clips from DeShaun Watson's State Championship game against Ware County. The Red Elephants (how can you not like typing that?) just demolished the Gators of Ware County. 2 defensive TDs and Watson is a maestro at QB for Gainesville.
HD Video (Ipad friendly)
From an evaluation standpoint, what Watson does best isn't necessarily going to show up on highlights, afterall, everyone makes the right choices on highlight reels, but Watson runs the offense... commands it...
he's one of the few HS QBs who read the defense, and makes adjustments at the line of scrimmage without having to stare at the sidelines... heck, one of the few QBs period that aren't tethered to the sidelines at the line of scrimmage.
He doesn't have any physical qualities that are going to blow you away... he's tall, but not huge... he has a good arm, but not a great arm... he's a good runner, not a great runner. He has good accuracy, not great accuracy.
he's a GREAT field general.
combined with everything else being Good, that's a powerful combination.

The staff is putting all their egg's in the Watson basket. I just hope they don't get burned and loose out on other kids that want to be buckeyes.
i still like Jerrod Heard of texas just as much as watson if not better. Real question is who is more likely to flip probably not heard unfortunitly. again youtube jerrod heard youll be saying why are we only chaseing watson
4 QB's on the roster this season and 3 for next season. I don't think QB is so tremendous of a priority for the staff right now to reach on anyone until they are sure. I would think its a good sign that the staff is being selective. It means they have a lot of confidence in our roster.
It's March and we are in Spring practice. Wake me up when the camps are over and if there are still no other QB offers, I'll be asking the same questions.
I'm all in favor of keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of fools. Let's start with typewriters.

You may be right...but Braxton will be a SR next year. Jones may or may not fit the offense. Barrett will be an unproven RS frosh. tOSU can't afford to not take a QB this year as it is the most important position on the field and I don't want all of the eggs in one basket (Barrett).

I've seen him play in person. I think he is the best QB in the class of 2014. He has a cannon . He is the real deal no doubt about it. I think he starts at Clemson as a true freshmen.

Unless Braxton turns into Dan Marino this year, its almost a forgone conclusion we have him for two more seasons. He will be a Heisman front runner, but NFL GM's still aren't seeing a first round prospect. But I have every ounce confidence Braxton and Herman are working on this.
That reason alone is proof that tOSU CAN afford to NOT take a QB this year. However... Nobody, not even in my previous post, was making any sort of argument for tOSU to NOT take a QB. The only thing I argued was the level of priority.
I think reading into QB offers in early March and drawing any sort of conclusion that the staff isn't going to offer any more is going a little overboard.
The reality is, QB simply isn't enough of a priority. We CAN be selective. The world will NOT collapse if we don't get a QB in 2014. But we do want one.
Furthermore, you ignored the underlying point. You threw out all kinds of "IF's" in your statement. But consider this, perhaps if the staff isn't prioritizing QB recruiting, could that not be due to them believing that those "IF's" you make are irrelevant? Maybe they LOVE what they are seeing from Barrett and Jones? Of whom will be a RS So and RS Jr respectively by the time there opportunity to start comes up.
I believe we are going to bring in a QB in the 2014 class. And I believe we are going to bring one in the 2015 class. But I don't believe we are in such a dire need to be out there throwing around offers to anyone with a pulse unless we have identified them as "what we want". Hence, the reason why we only have 1 offer out there, is because thus far he is the only QB we have identified as "what we want". As soon as we identify more, there will be more offers. But we aren't desperate and can therefore afford to be this selective at the moment.

Meyer and crew are probably trying to show Watson how bad they want him by only offering him.
I tend to agree with you also, if Barrett pans out like they think, there is no reason to go after a high profile QB they will sit the bench until he's a jr.
TRUE, BUT insider observation is telling Cardale Jones that he "needs" to leave if he wants to play. Cardale LOVES tOSU and has worked his rear end off, however, if he sees JT Barrett even or jump him on DEpth chart, or c'mon these kids are plenty smart, he will see the writing on the wall
Again, not wishing or hoping, but at some point REALITY may set in to Cardale and he may have a tough decision to make!!
With that being said, then we only have 2 scholarship QB's.. I don't know how Barker's insight would be to tOSU if he commits say to S.Carolina and then Urban tries to "flip him" or at least we end up with a Will Ulmer, Joey Duckworth type QB. I do believe Urban NEEDS a QB in this class.
