When most picked this to be a two or three loss season? To expect perfection from the players and coaches, at this point, is foolish.
Overall, I'm happy with the results (we are 2-0!) and the team is headed in the right direction (hey remember last season?).
With that post, i would have thought u was new here.
Part of it is unrealistic expectations due largely in part o reading how DOMINANT certain players are and how they are a "grown ass man" among boys and that not translating to the field instantly! Lol. (see Carlos Hyde, Stoney for ex.). there has also been quite a bit of 12-0 talk along with 10-2. urban doesn't have a magic wand, lots of young kids getting valuable experience.
From a defensive scheme, it seems to be more of the same as last year and faith in Fickell just isn't currently there. all the hype we've read for months about a dominating d line isn't showing, not cause they aren't good but we appear to only be rushing 3, have Big Hank and Simon out of their natural positions.
Lastly, we have a pretty intelligent fan base that also knows how thin we are at certain positions, I.e. QB, CB etc and they know no matter how good
of an athlete Brax is, he still looks sub par on intermediate and deep routes and our schedule is only going to get more challenging. PLUS it makes me cringe to see Brax carry the ball 27 times knowing he's getting hit/tackled @22 times, he's gonna get dinged up

Personally I am very pleased with what I have seen so far.
2 games in the defense does not yet have their identity yet held a run first Big Ten style offense to 100 yards rushing which will bode well against, MSU, UW, UM,UI, NU etc. And only allowed an average of about 13.5 points per game
Ucf hung half a hundred last week and barely got a third of that this week plus there are 5 top draft kids on that team
Offense under a very different system still does not have it's identity yet averaging over 40 per game with all of the mistakes
We actually have some version of an offensive line and a passing game for the first time in 11 years.
This team will be very tough to beat by the time we get to Blue. Mark it!
I dream of a day when chickens can cross the road without having their motives questioned.
No one was pissed when we gave up 10 points in the first game but 16 points to a better team is somehow terrible. I don't like the prevent defense either but it works against most teams.
this is exactly how I feel.
PS: No, I'm not new here. lol I know buckeye fans have very high standards.
Good post. To add to it I think we've designated "greatness" to alot of "good" players. Right now, I see two very very good players on our squad....Big Hank and Braxton....surrounded by some good players. I know I'm gonna get torched for this, but take a guy like John Simon. He is a good player. Not great. Love the attitude. Work ethic. Weight room discipline. Leadership. But at the end of the day he is a good to very good player. People on this site have deemed him "unblockable", game-changer, etc. I don't see it. We create expectations in the off-season guys just can't fulfill. Yesterday I thought Johnny Simon got manhandled by bigger, just as physical lineman with solid long arms. It happens. Not every play but too many it happened. Another guy....Brad Roby....is "gone" after this year. Just too good. Ok.....he is good, but Jeezus, in the off-season you'd think Deion Sanders enrolled. Noah Spence....gonna be a stud. Yes he will....in a year or two. Stoneburner = Aaron Hernandez. Um, no....but has all the tools to be close. Needs to want it more first. Everyone just needs to be patient. I know it won't happen but trust me. We'll get better as season goes on. Next year will be a vast improvement. Personally this year already has been over last. Braxton will have the offense down pat by November. The safeties will figure it out. Bennett will eventually get healthy. The best news is the Big 10 blows this year. We'll play the best opponent on 9/29....and I think we win.
I'm personally very pleased with what I see despite the mistakes. This team last year would of gotten beat by two scores by Toledo if they played this way yet we handily defeated a much better opponent. The offense, for one, is LIGHT YEARS ahead of where it was last year although they obviously have some work to do. Hell this may be a Top 10 team although that has more to do with how crappy most of the Top 10 looks.
I'm much happier beating what is supposed to be a pretty good UCF team as opposed to losing to ULM, Sacramento St. Or barely squeeking out a win over Air Force. Sometimes your opponent actually has talent and any win is a good win!
I think that there is room for improvement for this team. I can't imagine anyone not agreeing with that; however, the overall pessimism right now is amazing to me. Can't people enjoy a win. I don't remember nearly this much pessimism when Tressel was beating MAC teams by FGs, because it is still a win. It must be that people thought Urban would win every game vs a lessor opponent (and UCF is lesser even though they are good) by 30+. I just feel bad for people that can't enjoy games. Criticism is more than fair, but enjoy the ride.
Its inconquencial what this team does this year. Its Meyer taking kids that arn't his(90%) and trying to make them fit his style from a 6-7 team. He is winning. We need to quit compalining and rejoice. Expect wins but 12-0 is not realistic....9-3 maybe 8-4..just accept it. When he gets "his kids" we can turn up our expectations and his to the level we want!
Problems I see that are troubling: 1) a One dimensional offense in just Braxton Miller
b) pass routes not really envolving tight ends and backs our of the backfield. c) no pass rush on foe's passer d) sloppy tackling and missed tackles, poor angles..etc..e) sloppy and out-of place defensive back play...missed assignments, etc...f) too many penalties and dumb ones too g) where is Stoneburner?
I'm content with how the Buckeyes look so far. Some frustrating moments, but also a lot of big plays you can be excited about.
Remember, fans. This season is laying the foundation for what should be a great ride the next few seasons. :-) It will suck if tOSU stumbles and loses a couple along the way, but I look for the Buckeyes to be very tough to beat starting next year, and with adding a couple of Urban's classes, be an NC contender.
We didn't cover the spread! I'll admit I loss a little cash. Damn if Smith would have only caught that last ball on 3rd and long... LOL
