I don't buy the hype about secondary concerns - say what you want about dropped INT's. Love our S's - both bad asses. Roby - say no more, Grant-5 star future senior stud and 1st to 2nd round pick, not to mention our depth and the kids coming in - the CB's and S's we have coming in this fall could all start as true freshman and shut most teams down.
Even LB's - it is not like we dont have a fucking stable of them - not worried about who will step up to take over the MLB job - we have 10 to choose from - someone will - and if not we got Mitchel coming in, and the last tape I watched, he is pretty close to, if not every bit as good as the Big Cat who started as a true Fresh.
D Line - are you fucking kidding me - easliy the best in the BIG wih great depth at every position.
I get it, when recruiting is a little slow, the staff has to write about shit, but this D may be young - but the most tallented in the BIG and will in a year, be one of the best, if not the best in all of football.
IMO of course.
Nope. Going to be alot of growing pains with this group. If you are talking about Doran Grant as a future first or second founder you need to take a step back. Quit being a homer.

I think the concerns are just around depth and experience in the secondary. Roby, Bryant and Barnett all have experience. Bryant has had some games where he has been the target of frustration due to poor angles, not wrapping and being lost in coverage at times. IMO, he is a guy I definitely want on the field, though. I think he is an enforcer, and what you want in a hard hitting safety. Barnett has been the target of frustration for being out of position, disappearing, and poor coverage at times. He has also struggled with some injuries. I think Duane's game reviews have been completely up and down with him. The point is, neither kid is someone you won't have to cover for at some point in the game. We need a couple of players to step up behind them and either be ready to jump in due to injury, or to improve Safety play. It's a tall order for youngsters, but might be necessary at some point - even against a Northwestern.
DBiddy ran down the list of bodies at Saety in another thread - the number of Safety bodies has never been an issue here. We always have the cupboard full. However, we often find ourselves with only two or three who can really be counted on in meaningful minutes. Do we have more than that now? I think so, but we don't know.
At corner, we had a young Adam Griffin in the two deep last year, and that was with Howard. Again, we have bodies and a lot of potential, but do we have the quality depth to play man, lock down receivers and let the front 7 be unleashed against offenses?
We are no longer looking to play the bend and don't break Ds we played under Heacock, where we immediately dropped the LBs into coverage and played it safe. We are looking to attack, force errors, or get the punt return team on. It's a different philosophy, and it takes a different type of athlete in the secondary. Do we have that right now? Maybe, but I don't know how we'd know until we start seeing it in real game speed.
I love your passion and excitement, but take off the blinders and take your emotion out of the equation for a second. Did you watch the 2012 Buckeye defense???
How you can "Love" our safeties is beyond me. Christian Bryant is one of the worst tacklers I have ever seen. If he would wrap a guy up every once in a while instead of crashing into them as hard as he can he could be a very good player but his tackling was down right awful last year. I just don't think CJ Barnett is all that great of a football player and the guys we are bringing in are for sure studs, but they have yet to play a down in major CFB.
The LB's were a dumpster fire until Boren moved over. That is really all you need to know. And for those that think Curtis Grant is going to all of a sudden "get it" Remind yourself of this and only this...The staff started Storm Klein over him...Enough said!
The DL will no doubt be extremely talented...However you dont just replace John Simon and all that experience. Plain and simple CR2011 said it best. There will definitely be growing pains with the entire defensive unit.
IMO of course.
our D is going to be sick - secondary included
EVERY year OSU fans say our defense is gonna be " sick " & it never quite happens like fans think it will. There are always players who don't live up to expectations & d-coaches never call plays like the fans think they will.

Dude what safeties were you watching last year. There was no Mike Doss out there. Barnett and Bryant are avg at best
I'm with you,but don't expect many to join us.They don't understand the word IMPROVEMENT! Meyer has allways improved his team the Second Year.In a weak conference they will roll!
