so, every now and then for a bit of comedy relief I find myself checking out the latest on what our rivals are up to, as I am sure many others do as well. and today was special, so someone actually started a thread stating that hokey pokey will be as great as "bo" by the time he leaves. and I have to say I am amazed at the amount of people drinking the kool aid over there that actually think he will be "great". interested to hear anyone elses thoughts on this
And his Rose Bowl record wasn't great either. But Hoke will have an undefeated Rose Bowl record, for sure. 0-0.
I think he could be as good as Lloyd Carr, but he obviously is no Bo. The big thing standing in Hoke's way is Urban Meyer. He might get a win against us here and there, but he'll always be fielding a team that is less physically talented. I feel pretty strongly that we'll be getting Ohio's and the nation's best for years to come, whereas Hoke will be getting talented, but not quite OSU-caliber recruits. You're ultimately judged on championships and beating Ohio State, and i just don't think that's going to happen very often for the forseeable future.
I looked it up, 2-8 in Rose Bowls. Not good.
I agree a lot with ya +1 I see hoke being a lot like Lloyd, and that is fine with me or maybe a bit like john cooper. I mean, cooper was a great recruiter, and I see hoke being able to recruit, but I see him comming up short in big games, just like cooop.
Schembechler never lost 5 games or more in a season, until his 16th season at TSUN. In his first 10 years at Michigan, he either won the B1G outright, or tied for the league championship 8 times. The other two times, he finished second. Hoke has already had his first 5 loss season, and needs to win the B1G for the next 8 seasons in a row to be in the conversation. Michigan has yet to win its own division under Hoke, to even have the opportunity to finish second in the B1G. I have not gone to the TSUN thread, but can only guess that the individual who made the claim knows very little about his team's history, or how great a coach that Bo was...which is a shame. Not to defend Hoke, but it really isn't fair to even begin to compare him to Bo.
Hoke has never been to a B1G championship yet... so does the optimism come because of recruiting? It seems as if even OSU fans are giving Hoke the benefit of doubt. Recruiting is major, but I have not seen scUM dominate anyone but lower level competition.
Hoke's success all depends on how long he can keep Greg Mattison in AA.
Well ole hokey better figure out what a skill player is or he'll have a lot of down seasons.
Hoax's motto should be. Those who stay will be linemen.

Now that is some funny chit
Sarah sorry about the Herpes.
Hoke will not be Michigan's coach in 2016
I think the fans are excited that Hoke is getting them back to what worked for so many years... power football. He is obviously looking to go back to a pro-style offense that centers on the running game and play-action. People were so tired of RR that a return to the familiar has brought a lot of optimism, but with not real track record of big time success, this claim that Hoke will be the next Bo is unfounded at this point in time.
Like many others on this board, I do think they are recruiting very well, especially for what they are trying to do, but I also think that UFM is recruiting that much better. scUM will be very good for the foreseeable future, unfortunately, they are going to be going up tOSU in what appears to be another peak in the programs history. I am excited to see how things play out, because I do see a couple meetings between undefeated teams in "The Game" sometime in the future.
Hoke had one good year when the conference and tOSU was down and won a game against VT that quite frankly probably should have gone the other way. This past season he came crashing back down to earth with a very mediocre season and while they seem to be heading in the right direction, I think to compare him to Bo at this point in time is beyond delusional, but only time will tell.
So Hoke will also end up being "BO"Verrated?
I completely agree with this, Mattison is running a pupet regime up north, Wonder if he hadnt already been in place if Meyer would have tried to reunite with him?
And how old is that Mattison anyway?
Hoke has yet to win a conference title any plave he has coached.
Hoke hasn't even won a fucking MAC championship. Why is he called "elite" in all kinds of national media? Even Herbstreit calls him elite. Don't you have to win SOMETHING first!? Even a whiffle ball championship is better than NOTHING.'
Hoke is building a Tressel clone team. The problem is down here Urban is building a different type of skilled team that Tressel never saw in the B1G.
And we remember what happened when Tressel ran into that type of team. Florida and LSU.
"Playing here is the closest thing to heaven on earth..." - Brian Rolle
Don't think for a second Hoke isn't building a very good team. His problem is he is going to run into a superior product every year. And more importantly that superior product is going to come from his own division and his own conference. Something Tress never had to face.
He's recruiting well, but that isn't the point. He needs to win something first. Even Zook went to a Rose Bowl. I am
Not saying he will never be good, I'm saying he's still never won anything. At any place he's coached.
Call me a homer, but think Tress' teams will prove to be more talented than Hoke's as well. The core of Hoke's classes will come from Ohio and national recruits, and i just can't foresee a situation in which his classes rank as consistently strong as Tress', both on signing day and in hindsight.
If Hoke can come up with a new wrinkle to use all those lineman, he may have a shot at it. He really needs to get some top rugby hb's to pull it off tho.
