    A.) Sour Grapes
    B.) Not the whole story
    C.) True

I'm leaning toward "not the whole story", because this doesn't seem like how Urban would handle it.
I'd think he'd never shy away from handling any situation man to man.

    What do you think?

  • I'm guessing someone had to tell him that he's been kicked off the team. I doubt he just got a piece of paper with "GET OUT" written on it. I'm sure he's bummed regardless but I'm guessing he just wanted to talk to Meyer instead of an assistant coach before he headed out.

  • Urban is not there to baby sit. This happened the day after he clearly stated his expectations. Got exactly what he deserved.

  • There's a right way to handle things.
You want to fire someone, you look them in the eye and tell them they screwed up , and there's the door.

That's not something I thought he would/should delegate.
That's my opinion, and I'm stickin to it.coffee

I agree. You look them in the eye and say this isn't working. I would like to hear from coach Meyer how this went down.

I have to agree with you on this one. Nobody likes to have to dismiss someone, but if you are the guy in charge, it is one of the things you get paid to do.

Who are you putting your trust in - UM or a kid who continually gets in trouble and challenges the system? You guys are unbelieveble.

    beareyes

  • Honestly I don't care who told him. They could send me in to deliver the news. As a "head coach" essentially I personally would handle everything like this, but it doesn't really matter.

These guys are all adults, and the situation was very black and white. He broke the rules, he is gone.

I think this is just sour grapes from a stupid person. I am calling him stupid because he got busted immediately after Urban laid out the rules, and he wasn't someone with a squeaky clean record either.

It really is too bad, because Clarke was a very good player. All this junk about how "he wouldn't have been dismissed if he was more important" sounds bogus to me. Clarke should have been the starter all year, and I'm guessing is only limited by how far he shoved himself into the doghouse with the staff.

    How are is it "unbelievable".

My opinion is clear, and I stated the parameters in the first post:
"I'm leaning toward "not the whole story", because this doesn't seem like how Urban would handle it.
I'd think he'd never shy away from handling any situation man to man. "

I feel Urban WOULD have faced the kid, (or should have if I'm wrong and we DO have the whole story)
I feel the Urban that we assume we have, would have met him , told him he had no leg to stand on, there would be no mercy,
then he'd show him the door and move on to the next issue.

Gessig, Thanks for the info, I 'm inclined to agree w/you. I really don't think (or want to think) that Urb would handle things this way. Real bad pub, you know what I mean. How in the world can you recruit the best, then dismiss the guys who F up without even a face to face ? It just doesn't make sense. I'm sure it will all come out in the end.

    Agreed.

I don't want to think that Meyer would delegate a final chapter like that.

    In fact, as an aside,
I'll mention that I could not entertain Urban not talking to him... so I re-read it and I wondered if it meant: ... "I know I screwed up, but Urban wouldn't even listen to me .... but Tress ... he would have given me the chance to shed some tears, say I was sorry, and I might have gotten another chance... Stone Cold Dude, that Meyer"

CEO's delegate...in this case he's got bigger issues to invest his time on.

  • Urban did "talk" to him. it was the 7am meeting where he set the rules. DC disciplined himself when he decided to screw up later that night. I think I would rather have Urban spending his time closing the deals on Taylor Decker, Camren Williams, and others. Once Urban gets the 82 Warriors he wants to go to battle with, he will take care of them as good as anyone; he wouldn't be where he is today if he didn't care about his players.

Guys...if Urban took an hour to address every decision made he would get 10 % of his daily tasks accomplished. Knock it off... Clarke made his own bed. He is the CEO of our program, who just laid out the expectations....iets stick together and quit whining!

    Manassas_Bell

  • I read it as he didn't get to tell his side of the story. He did say coach let him go. I think UM got the details and made up his mind without input from clarke.

You only get so many chances..especially givin the timing

What can you expect the day after having the law laid down ? Timing, as they say, is everything. Tress might have given another chance. Those extra chances, cost Tress dearly, IMHO

  • Just thinking, a lot of these players are 2,3,4, years away from becomming multi-millionaires. They need to grow the f*ck up, and get with it. Mr. Clarke (and many others like him) needs to rebound and take care of business. He could also stop by Tress' house and get some advise on the future. I sure wish that I had their good fortune.
