  • One of my favorites in this class. Great kid.

    buckUBlue

  • yes, I watched him beat Dresden Tri Valley, shifty and smart, can run and tackle.

    Woody Hayes

  • Totally agree wht you ponzie----saw him beat Big Walnut..what an athlete...home Urban lets him return KO's too!

    Bigjimmie

  • I think it was posted after Friday night lights that he and Bell were the two top performers.

  • If you have not heard this kid in an interview you are supremely missing out. Very impressive young man.

    skipow

  • "I knew it was going to get a little hectic later on," he laughed, referring to Ohio State's big-time finish to the class. "I knew I had to jump on my offer when I could so I did."

    Smart man right there.

  • I like the kid, but I just don't know where he's going to fit?

Bell and Thompson at safety. Worley the probable Star. Where does Lee fit? Not dynamic enough for offense.

  • If Darron were playing full time either way he would have been way up the charts. Unfortunately, they really protected him (or fortunately-however you look at it) from injury because he was PIVOTAL to that teams success. He didn't play full time QB and he didn't play fulltime S. He did a mixture of both, and mainly it was QB were he saw the majority of the action. He reminds me of Terrelle Pryor. He is long (not 6'5) but has silky smooth running ability. He can accellerate and pull away from defenders on offense and it looks effortless. On defense he has great instincts. Seems to know where the play is and find the football. Some of the folks in NA were critical of him but I really feel that was the coaches keeping him healthy and not "laziness" or "lack of effort". I do believe he could be a 3 year starter at FS or SS or possible even Star with some addition to his frame (which will automatically happen in the weight program). I agree that he is one of my favorites of the class. I thought possibly he could contribute offensively until I saw the load the Meyer brought in at the WR position. NO WAY now he sees the offenvise side of the football. I think Bell and Lee will be a hellacious combo in the deep secondary.

Not that I disagree with your analysis but don't think for a second that Lee doesn't hear this kind of speculation as well and will have something to say about it when he gets on the field.

  • Wanting to see what will end up happening with Conley, Thompson, Bell, Burrows, and Apple, and then add in Lee to the mix.... best talent plays but how do you get all the guys in the game at the same time? You dont really see many rotations within the secondary

I don't know much at all about this kid, but I do know football.... I have never seen a kid that was SO CRITICAL to a team's success, that he didn't play full time either way... Chris Spielman, Charles Woodson, Percy Snow, ..... they never left the field... could it be because they used a different QB in a different package that was dictated by the defense? I don't doubt this kids talent, but this explanation seems a bit odd to me... If he is too valuable at QB to get hurt playing safety full time, he shouldn't be playing it at all.

Dont be surprises if worley grows into an olb. Kid has the potential to add weight and keep his speed.

You are acting liked they locked up the positions based off of rankings; the competition is going to be fierce and the best will play. The interesting part about Lee is that he's 6"3 and could probably weigh about 220 if he had to so depending on how his body matures he will have the luxury or curse of being able to play three positions on the defense (star, safety, LB).

You remember we have a 5 star LB that can't grasp the scheme, CJ Barnett was one of the highest ranked safeties in his class, you just never know how a kid is going to develop. Lee will compete and if he's the best then he'll play over anyone regardless of rankings especially if they're not getting the job done....like our current crop of safeties starting based off of last years performance.

I am in 100% complete agreement with you. I don't give a shit what his star ranking is. Kid EARNED his scholarship by going step for step with Vonn Bell at camp this past summer
There is a reason his twitter name is Mr Underrated!

Guy, I know how it works but thanks.

You thinking saying safety then for Lee? Strong Safety or Free Safety? I highly doubt that Vonn Bell will get beat out by somebody else in this class for 1 of the 2 safety spots. Therefore, Lee would have to beat out Thompson or potentially Burrows for the other spot. I don't see him getting big enough to play LBer, but I guess he could compete with Worley for that Star.

  • for those who haven't watched him on film, go watch. he is a big hitter, and fast. would love to see him and bell in the defensive backfield. no wr in his right mind will want to run over the middle.

Really I'm just saying that there are so many variables (injury, transfer, football IQ) that you can't discount any of them. Remember Shazier was skinny as heck when he came here he only wieghed 10 more pounds than Lee, but both shared a quality that they were really good football players. Shazier hadn't played LB ever, except in an allstar game. I think the kid will find a way at some point to push someone at 3 different positions.

Anyone remember how decimated our safeties have been the last couple of years due to injury? We are just a couple of plays from needing him to step in and play if he doesn't beat out the guys you listed. Besides, he was a camp offer. Always gotta love camp offers.
