I realize that there is a significant thread already devoted to the latest round of speculation on conference alignment and the role Texas may or may not play. I am not trying to rehash that conversation in another thread however, I will warn the reader up front that realignment talk could be an output from some potentially interesting banter coming out of Austin.
I will as always say that boarding house rules apply here. I recently had another source out of Austin reach out to me and share some interesting tidbits. Now, I will say up front, that I am not too familiar with this person however, their background gives me a belief that this might be legit. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. Not to mention, they seem like a very cool person.
That being said, what I was told was there is a very realistic chance that Dodds could be gone in the next 4-6 weeks. There are a few dominoes that are lining up that will make sense after the fact, but there is belief that this could happen soon. IMO, I think Dodds lasts until the OU game but this person indicated otherwise. Surveying the landscape and trying to read the tealeaves, a few names to keep an eye on. Foley at UF and Jurich at Louisville. They would be the lead candidates. There might be a couple of nothers, but if I am a betting man, it will be one of those two.
What I was told was that if/when the new AD comes into their role, conference alignment will be back on the table or at least more so than we are currently hearing. Don't be surprised to see the PAC12 come back into play. IMO, again, I think the B1G makes the most sense and will net Texas the most money.
The other item for the new AD is to clean out current coaches giving Texas a bad branding right now. I alluded to the big 3, Football, Basketball and Baseball and that was verified. First up on the hit list is Mack Brown. As I have said repeatedly and was confirmed by this person, this is it for Brown. He basically has to beat OU (which won't happen) and win a BCS game (which they won't make) Anything short of that and Brown is out. Then you can get ready for the Saban debate and the insane amount of money talked about to get Saban away from Alabama. I have my own thoughts on that but will save that for when/if this actually takes place. Look for Shaw from Stanford and one other prominent name to be bantered about. But Texas will pull out ALL the stops to get their guy.
Additionally ESPN is putting a lot of pressure on Texas about the LHN and the albatross it has become. There has been some rumors in the past that the DIsh network may make a play and that may surface again soon, but in the end I see this dying a painful death. So, again, IMO, I don't see the LHN as any barrier to Texas joining another conference.
Any realignment wouldn't happen until after the football season anyway but what I was told was Dodd was the wrench in all of this (again, as I have heard, the old school Texas alum). If he goes quickly as I have suggested, realignment talks will heat up very quickly.
One thing to remember is that the B1G negotiating their new TV deal has the attention of those within the B12 that see the writing on the wall.
Another speculation only on my part and have no source to back this up, is that if there is a change at Texas, that allows Delaney to back track on his comments the other day saying that the B1G is fine where it is right now. There is his out.
So there you have the latest that I have heard. Poke holes, make fun, whatever.
Honestly, I can't wait for the season to start so we can talk mostly about football on the field.

Keep the info coming bro. Most of us appreciate it. For those that don't, then they can stay out of the thread and not read it. Problem solved.

Great update - appreciate it.

Very interesting. However, didn't Texas grant its media rights to the conference? If so, doesn't that present a problem?

Thanks TexasBucknut! I appreciate you distinguishing source information from your opinion. Keep the updates coming!
1) I think it's foolish to assume this Dodds character as the AD would put a wrench into the Conference realignment plans if that's what the Board of UT wanted to do. If the board wants to do it then the AD listens to the board.
2) Saban is in his 60s now and has as good as a situation at Alabama as you could possibly want as a head coach. # 1 recruiting class every year and 3 out of last 4 Natties. He's not uprooting and starting over again for a couple more million dollars at his age.
