  • Just started a new "cutting" diet this past week and haven't had any hiccups yet. I currently lift four days a week and do some HIIT running three or four days a week. The entire diet is all dependent on timing. I try to consume roughly 2500-3000 calories a day with 1000-1500 coming in the morning, 1000 for lunch and 500 for supper. It is a high protein/ low carb diet.. A majority of the carbs should come in the morning with as few as possible coming after the workouts. Breakfast is usually 4 eggs, a whole wheat bagel with natural peanut butter, a banana and a protein shake with almond milk. After breakfast, I just eat either salads with lean meats or a sandwich and protein shake. Drink lots of water and when you're really hungry try eating an apple or some celery. Fiber is your best friend for a diet. I'm not saying this diet is better than any others, just throwing it out there what has worked for me.

  • I started dieting about 2 years ago and lost almost 90 pounds in about 18 months. I went from 273 to 185. I stopped eating out and ate nothing past 7:00 at night. I started eating about 5 small meals a day and went more whole grain and less pasta, potatoes and bread.

I have a really bad back and have to say it's been the best thing in the world. I have tried all drugs and even had neves burned off in my back but nothing better than losing weight. I bike about 10 - 12 miles a day from spring to fall and run occasionally which I couldn't due with all the extra weight. I have kept it off ever since I started and could never go back.

You hear it all the time, it really is calories in vs calories burned off. My metabolism is so fast right now I can eat what ever and never gain weight I stay at 185 - 189 all the time.

  • This guys ideals changed my life, I am 5'10".

In September I weight around 236 lbs with a 40" waist
    BP was 142/98 now 111/72
Cholesterol was 265 now less than 150
    Triglycerides was 396 now 110
resting heart rate was 88 now 66

Now 185 lbs with a 30 inch waist

I just started exercising last week because I want to go back to 200 (I look like a popcycle, big head and skinny)
I am completely med free and my acid reflux went away 3 days after I started. But the cool part is after 4.5 months
I quit losing weight, it was like my body said it was where it belonged and stopped losing. I have been 185 for roughly 2 months. Plus I have done cardio 3 times in the last 2 weeks and I can't get my heart rate over 141 on an exercise bike (I have bad knees so that is about I can except swim and I live in Northern Illinois so not really a good option). Take it for what it's worth but IMHO it saved my life and I eat as much as I want and when ever I get hungry which is pretty often.

That's why I posted, sometimes other peoples stories provides motivation to get you through those rough moments and then it motivates others to get off their hump and do something. We all are trying to be healthy even those that smoke probably wish they could quit or slow down.

  • I think the key is to eat lots of Fruits and Vegetables, lean meats and whole foods. I've found when I eat nutritious, high quality food it takes way less to satisfy me and I feel full longer. I eat often but instead of going for a whole meal as soon as I feel hungry I eat some type of fruit or vegetable and pistachios with a little cheese really does the trick as well. Fill your plate with plants, beans, whole grains like quinoa, and then lean cuts of beef, chicken, and fish. Eat slow and stop before you feel full, it takes your stomach some time to let you know when you're full. Exercise as much as possible and you'll feel like you're 20, I do.

I've never messed with taking out my yolks from anything either, a lot of protein and beneficial stuff is in those yolks leave them in. Also don't go no fat, go lower fat but recognize the good natural fats found in olive oil, fish oil, and nuts will help you burn more fat and keep you feeling full for longer. Being fit and full of energy is the greatest thing in the world as far as i'm concerned, when your girl can't keep her hands off of you, that doesn't suck either.

  • Just start the p90x. Amazing workout and it has a meal plan to go with it. Food is ok not great but you get use to it. If you want to get ripped this is absolutely a great way to go. Also need to drink plenty of water, if you can't give up pop switch to diet.

  • Currently on a diet as well, have lost 12 pounds in 7 weeks.

Keep it simple. Avoid bread and cereal, eat small protein filled snacks at 10 AM and 3 PM. Nuts or protein bars are what I eat. For lunch and dinner, a good rule of thumb is that half yor plate should be produce and the other half protein, only eating potato based items a couple times a week. Breakfast I do the egg white routine with some sort of turkey sausage or turkey bacon.

Diet alone doesn't work for a lot of people so you have to work out at least 4 times a week, mix cardio and strength for a 60 minute workout.

    Eat less, move more.

  • Don't know all the ages of the posters but I'm at 63 y/o and for the most part I eat what I want except dairy, lactose intolerant.
Now understand that I eat in moderation, but I eat fruit, veggies, salads, chicken, and weight watchers dinners, BUT I also eat soy ice cream, cookies, bread and other see food. With that said, I work out 4 days a week without fail, I ride a stationary bike and then do weight training, can still do dumb bell benches with 80 lbs. and other similar weights for other body parts. I think you should eat as healthy as you feel and want but I'm not gonna give up what I like, not at this stage of my life, BP is 121/78 and pulse is about 68 on the average, but who knows, guys in great health drop over so for me, I'm gonna enjoy my life.

  • Man u guys are sooo lost on nutrition. If u want to lose weight count your calories. Most are too lazy to do this but if u really want to lose the weight u will do it. All losing weight is, is calories in vs. Calories out. U must find out your body's maintenance calories and adjust your caloric intake accordingly.

    jsnyde45

  • I usually have a coffee in the morning. A small lunch that might consist of a small salad or chilli and a small frosty/piece of fruit. And then for dinner I have maybe a half of burritto or reasonable amount and try to stay away from fried foods. I've dropped about 20 lbs and have a ton more energy that I used to. I think we in the good ol' USA, unless you are a training athlete or something, eat WAAAAYY too much for are own good. I"m not preaching but it is true. I lived in Japan for a period of time and although they eat well, it is very health food (compared to the typical U.S. diet) and if you can't walk there you are lost. Anyway, I probably only eat about 1300-1500 calories a day and I've never felt better. I do drink a lot of water too.
