Don't understand ESPin rankings on JT Barrrett

  • I just checked on JT Barrett the #1 Dual Threat QB in the country but ESPin doesn't even have him in the top 150. rivals has him at #137 and 247 has him at the top 50.
    What in the world do they base their rankings on. How is he not a ESPN150?

    OK for you who are getting overly excited about this post and not really reading the context of the message. Here is the intent of the message: I am shaking my head at ESPin because i see JT as a great dual threat QB and questioning why ESPiN does not consider him a top 150. This message is nothing more than a sidebar conversation about ESPin and how they rank using JT as an example. So just chill out and enjoy having our new #1 Dual Threat QB committment.

    espn is the worst at the rankings i believe, but it is still a mystery how some sites have a guy at 5* and other sites could have same player a lot lower.

    He is 247's #1 Dual Threat QB. He is not Rivals or ESPN's #1 Dual Threat, it's all subjective. Swoopes is Rivals #1 Dual

    DUDE! STOP going to ESPN for anything in regards to tOSU or B1G.

    ...They've made it quite clear that they aren't going to report down the center and favor other Conferences and schools and guess what? Recruiting is included in that. They don't know anything about recruit assesment nor can they effectively predict a recruit's potential.

    So just quit going there for this type of stuff as I did, they suck. PERIOD!

  • Yeah his size probably doesnt help. ESPN rankings suck anyways though. Im not sure if he has comitted to play in any AA games but if he were to choose the UA AA game he would instantly jump into their top 50. Being tall doesnt really matter much in Urban's offense. Plus, how tall was Troy Smith and where was he ranked coming out of HS? biggrin

    Technically he does live in SEC country. Now that TA&M is in the SEC, the state of TX can be considered SEC country.

    The thing is ESPN rankings are widely considered the worst.

    Not only that, but sites rank based on perception from film study and comparison to competition. Coaches put in a number of other factors. Such as leadership and personality traits. Meyer places a lot more value on work ethic and what kind of competitior the individual is. None of these elements go into an ESPN ranking.

    Why do you guys give a shit if the guys is ranked 1st or 10th by some stupid recruiting site. He was Urban's number 1 QB on the board and we got him. He has a great offer sheet from around the country and obviously a top tier prospect. Who cares about rankings on any site?

    I'm sure the fact that he is 6'1" is why he's ranked as low as he is over there. Notice they have Turbursky in the top 10 but not JT Barrett.

  • All of the scouting sites are speculation!! The best way to value a guy is the average of 247, ESPN, Rivals, and Scouts. Plus, look at their offer sheet. If someone is offered by every school in the country there's a reason. JT Barrett had some solid offers but I was always curious why he wasn't offered by Texas A&M or Texas. I trust our coaching staff though. They know who fits their system the best.

    I do agree, that of the four sites, ESPN seems to be the worst every year. Personally, I trust Rivals the most but they're all subjective.

  • Why do we always have to find something wrong with a great situation? The kid committed, he can flat out ball, lets enjoy this and keep the ball rolling. Now we got people pissed because he isn't rated as highly as they want. Just shut the hell up! (Damn I had to get that out)

    A&M took a QB last July and Texas got Tyrone Swoopes who I would say is better prospect because of his massive frame.

    Thanks for the update. That makes sense. I guess it worked out well for us that both of the top in state schools went in a different direction.

  • Before J.T Barnett committed I was outrage over the ESPN ranking. 15 best duel threat QB? Please, theirs not one QB I would choose over him.
