Dymonte Thomas

  • I'd like to better understand how the old regime (Luke Fickell and co., not JT) did NOT offer a schollie to Dymonte Thomas when virtually every national recruiting service has him listed as either a 4 or 5 star recruit. I understand you can't take everyone and that recruiting is not an exact science, but you have a stud DB/RB in your own backyard that you don't even bother to offer a scholarship to (knowing that the kid is related to the stud RB you are desperate to have in Dunn) and you completely swing and miss and let him go to TSUN. I know that UFM may get the kid to flip his commitment to scUM, but I just want to hear everyone's opinion on how the old regime (which still has Luke and Vrab on staff BTW) can miss that bad...I love coach Fickell and Vrab don't get me wrong, but this seems like a total f*ck up and I just don't understand how seasoned coaches like we had missed this bad on a talent as good as Thomas...

Id like to know too, really bad. He would be a buckeye if we would have shown him more love. The only thing he talked about before he committed to ttun was playing at OSU with Briontee

  • You can blame Bollman. Really, blame Bollman. He didn't even say hi to him or anything when he would go visit the OLmen from whatever school he goes to.

Blame Bollman. Not just because he was a scapegoat(and the reason) for a lot of our problems, but because he really did F up.

  • Well, it boils down to who went to the school to do the recruiting: Jim Bollman. Bollman didn't even want to talk to him, only Higgins. Then when Higgins committed to MSU, Bollman made an ass out of himself to the coach at Marlington and to Zach Higgins dad Jim. By the time Urban got to Columbus, Michigan's Head Coach Greg Mattison had stayed on him after he committed during his visit the week of Notre Dame.

By the way, I live in Alliance and my kids go to Marlington. It is a small school. Bollman really made an ass out of himself.

  • Could not agree more with every word.. Who knows. We'll get even more recruiting momentum once we get into the season and start playing games. After today I just have a feeling Mich will not be nearly as good/lucky as last year and we'll snatch dymonte

  • I have wanted to see "the Walrus" go for years now but always stood pat because I loved Jim Tressel. Hearing what you are saying about the Walrus now at Marlington and knowing that he didn't really have interest in recruiting like a coach at THE OSU needs to, it pisses me off even more. That ass set us back not only in OL talent but now it sounds like in skill position talent...but please help me understand how Luke or Vrabs didn't step in and overrule the Walrus on a talent as big as Dymonte? With the lack of depth we have at safety that we are all hearing about from the staffers, Dymonte sure as sh*t would seem like a god send and he's an OH boy and we wouldn't have to deal with Su'a and his demands...

    akunsman

  • Ridiculous to blame fickell when he had to deal with the shitstorm. And its not like they waited to offer until the middle of his senior year. If he wants to come to osu he will

  • I have my reservations about Thomas as a player. I like him as an offensive player more than defense. I don't know if he really like to hit on defense. IMO the Buckeyes will roll the dice because he is vey athletic but IMO alot of his ranking is because o his measurables. Michigan might be looking at him on on offense which IMO bette suits him.

I agree with you 100%, unless he flips then he'll be the baddest dude I've ever seen! Lol.

    Swankenstein

  • Nope but he is a better offensive talent than defense. IMO thats what Michigan is gonna get him to play because after todays spring Joke...they need help at RB.

True that. Bollman went up to look at Zach Higgins and didn't even know who Dymonte was! That was Bolls area and he didn't even know that this kid was a stud running back and safety on the same team. Dude was the laziest recruiter and we're so much better off now that he's gone. He just never liked the recruiting aspect of big time college football. You have to cultivate relationships with the HS coaches and their players. Not just take months to evaluate or not offer while other schools come in and swoop up your best in state players. I'm still celebrating the fact that he's not on our staff!

  • Notice the kind of offense he runs in...fits our scheme quite nicely.

I live 5 mins from marlington high school and have seen Thomas play live several times and will watch him again next year. He is not impressive on offense at all. He wasn't even the best rb on his own team last year, Alden Hill was

  • I suggest you watch his highlight tape and see what kind of offensive plays they have for him...he fits Urbans offense like a glove.

I have seen his tape but I don't need to watch it iv seen the kid play in person like 5 times. I'm just saying he's a db all the way imo not saying i don't respect your opinion.
Also he plays in the NBC and its average competition on its best day

  • The only reason there is angst over Thomas is because he's going to Michigan. If he was going anywhere else no one would care. This is definitely not a can't-miss player. He reminds me of the Glenville kid some people were wringing their hands over a few years ago because he chose Illinois over the Buckeyes. Much ado over nothing. Very similar player.
This wasn't the only kid Bollman whiffed on. Tyler Decker would be at Notre Dame and Kyle Dodson would be at Wisconsin if Bollman were still here. Meanwhile, he left us the prize that is Chris Carter, Underwood, Bobek, etc., none of whom will be starters again this season on a staggeringly depleted OL.
