I've been doing some research myslef..and to 9595's credit..I see his posts on nearly every ACC board. I've listened to quite a few 'conspiracy' theories and wanted to throw them out and see if any stick to your personal walls.

#1. Yes, some very preliminary talks have gone on w/ Rutgers and Md. for awhile...why did they heat up?

There seems to be a couple streams of thoughts..#1 is PSU WAS actively seeking a way out of the B10. The BOD down to the very last mouth breathing pedo-fan is so dishusted with Delaney and B10 that they want out now..if they can afford it. ACC was their option A. PSU is disgusted with the additional levies B10 threw at them and let's face it..they've never felt welcome and always complained that they get treated unfairly on the field. They do seem to have some sort of love child relationship with Md. They call it a rivalry, but when the series record is 35-1-1, how big of rivalry is that? PSU is also 22-2 vs. Rutgers (another team near and dear to them). As you can see...Md and Rutgers when playing against decent teams...don't fair very well. Their over-all record is similar to Purdue and Illinios, but considering the competition..they have nowhere near Purdue or illinios' credentials.

Even in Delaney's carefully crafted presser..he mentioned using Penn State as a 'bridge' to the east. Adding two of their eastern buddies to 'appease' their anger.

So, conspiracy theory #1 is that Penn State has caused this chemical reaction by their own butt hurt slef paranioa...we'll just name this thoery the Sandusky Effect.

#2 theory..which also involves Pedo State is that the B10 is at its' lowest point in many, many years. Not a good place to be negotiating wise with THE TV contract that makes or breaks you coming in 3 years (negotiations start at least a year before the 2016 data). A strong product demands top dollar. A weak product gets less. Right now...B10 fb is a weak product. To make up the difference...you sell more product..more games. The major contract with ESPN/ABC looks at # of games...which is why SEC got an immediate bump by adding Mizzou and AtM even though their contract was just signed two years before.

Penn State's diminished product for the forseeable future has devalued the B10 as whole even further. Add in the recent bowl troubles and the rise in TV ratings for SEC, B12, and Pac12 marquee games and it's more ammo for the other side of the bargaining table.

Like anyone else...I really don't know. These are just some of the theories out there of why this is happening now and is an opposite view that we are visionaries creating our own utopia...but instead...survivalists doing what we need to do keep what we got.

btw...there are apparently lawyers on other boards that know the language of the ACC buyout contract that say it is ironclad. Md. will be making payments or B10 helping with these payments (which also irks PSU because they are getting cut or being withheld payments). The only thing Md. has in their favor is...they didn't sign the ACC buyout contract (only ACC school to not do this)...but the comeback was it is kind of like pleading nolo contendo..you're still guilty or responsible.

So..if you don't like what is happening..here's a way to blame who we hate anyways..Pedo State.
