AAU is very important and brings in a lot of money and prestige. However, so does great Football.
Last time I checked The Big Ten was originally built around great football and FSU was pretty decent in football. FSU is also academically sound, a candidate for AAU status, and is located in a great TV market with a superior national recruiting base. What else do we want here?

That's not the point. It's obviously not just about AAU, or we would not be courting Notre Dame, BC, and FSU who are not AAU members. AAU is important, but lets not be narrow minded about AAU BEING A "must" . if AAU was the only criterea, then good academic AAU institutions in populated urban TV markets like Tulane university would already have been invited.
Fortunately, football tradition, and other factors matter as well. Therefore, If Delaney can find right traditional football power with the right demographics, TV market, and recruiting geography, he will take them, period. He will take them whether they are AAU or not. Just ask Nebraska, and Notre Dame.

First, Manhattan is right. There is no B1G bylaw requiring AAU status. It's simply a strong preference of the member schools. A legitimate application is what is being showcased to appease Wisky/Meatchicken

Second, FSU is closer to achieving AAU status than perhaps any other school in the country based upon the evaluated criteria. In fact, compared to some AAU members, like Oregon and Iowa St, FSU outranks them in several critical categories.
