The fact that this is not the first time (or maybe even second) in the last year where Smith has had to come out and issue an official statement to explain something that he himself told the media is a major indictment of how he is performing his duties. I read the article from him not long ago about all the hard times because of OSU fan perception. Yet, not long after he gets quoted and has to issue an explanation.

I would imagine diplomacy is an integral part of his job skills requirement. In this, he is severely struggling.

Industries across America are still getting rid of good people, with families too, who make far smaller (and less public) mistakes. This eliminates any sympathy I have for his plight. As a result, I'm struggling with the logic as to why he is still employed in Columbus.

What would your BOD and CEO do to a Senior Exec if that individual had multiple public mishaps with the media like Gene has over the same period?
