  • It all depends what the rest of your team looks like. With this Ohio st team I take Burke all day over Craft because we lack a second scoring option so bad. If you have a team that has great second and even third scoring options I take Craft bc of his defense.

This team I take Burke. Hind sight is 20/20 but theres no question I take Burke over Shannon Scott on any team. It sucks that Burke was a late bloomer. Imo Scott has been a big bust considering he was a McDonalds All American. It baffles me how he could be an All American and be this poor on the offensive side of the ball!!

  • There is only one right answer to this question - both.

The staff made a terrible mistake and will not admit it. They saw Burke all week in team camp every summer, then several games with Sully every winter, then saw him single-handedly lead All-Ohio Red to an AAU title.

Add Smith and Scott as you wish, but OSU has the best back court in the Big Ten, maybe the country, with Craft at point and Burke catching and shooting at the two.

I guess this staff made a mistake and so did all the other staffs in major college bball then. He came on late. At one point his best offer was Penn State. Burke committed. We needed a guard so we got Shannon Scott out of Ga. Burke continues to improve and wasn't rated that high after his junior year in HS. Thats the point we got Scott, if my memory serves me right. Burke came on as a senior. We had Craft as a frosh. Scott had already commited and other schools jumped on the Trey Burke bandwagon. Someone correct me if Im wrong.

  • Tempe, You are wrong, because you are repeating the party line. Ratings do not matter to coaches, only to fans. Coaches see players and make their own decisions. Yes, OSU had Craft as a freshman, but only because Sully insisted. They did not believe he would do anything more than keep out of trouble and get good grades. Yes, that came from a coach. Burke led Northland to a state title and was their second best player as a sophomore. Then he led his AAU team to a national title after his sophomore year. OSU saw him dozens of times, but never realized what they saw. They completely misevaluated both Craft and Burke. As for the Penn State commit, 1., Matta convinced Diebler to change his Valpo commit, and could have done that with Penn State. 2. After Burke decommitted, OSU still did not want him. 3. Urban Meyer would have had Craft, Burke and Scott, and Matta probably could have.

  • We will agree to disagree then Lee. I have read many of your posts on here. Respect the opinion you usually have. Burke was ranked as a 3 star as a senior per Rivals. The 26th ranked pg in his class and 142nd overall. Shannon Scott was a McD All American and ranked 32nd overall. I would say that Burke is the better player without doubt right now. Did Matta miss on this one? He sure did. And so did Izzo, Caliapri, Pitino and etc. Its not the party line. My original post is exactly how it played out. I guess Thad decided to stay with his top 32 player and not pull his scholly to bring in a much lower rated Burke. Burke was still commited to Penn State when Scott verballed. Trey verballed to Michigan in November of his senior year. Would he like to have this one back? Hell yea he would. But those are the facts as it happened. Ratings are not an exact science.

I saw a chart in the paper on Monday. Top 10 recruiting rankings in football 3 years ago. 5 of the top 10 were not even ranked teams last year. Hit some. Miss some. Thats why they all get the BIG bucks.

    Either way. Go Bucks.
