I worked in Madison for a summer and it is a cool town. I think they have the only student union that sells beer. It is a good place to visit, right on the lake and usually have music on the weekends. Also Essen Haus is a good restaurant with German food & beer and about a miilion beer mugs on the ceiling.
Also there is a diner near the stadium called Mickie's Dairy Bar and is is a great place for breakfast
