Happy New Year: Buckeye Bowl Mania

You won't find Ohio State in a bowl game today. We look back at OSU’s 43 past bowl appearances and assign numbers from 1 to 43 on the most important/most memorable games.

  • My Dad was in the Marines at El Toro in '58 and went to that Rose Bowl. He stormed the field with his buddies and torn down a goal post. I thought about doing that in '03, but would have got my azz kicked. I plan on bringing Pops to the '14 NCG. I'm sure he will talk me into trying it.

  • Guess I've been very Lucky. I've traveled to 4 bowl games. Your top three and your top loss, 96 Citrus Bowl. Sitting in that cold rain and listening to Rocky Top didn't seem so special, but the other three were amazing. 69 Rose Bowl was our honeymoon and those Sophmore stars were my classmates. My daughter marched in the 97 Rose Parade and 06 was the best game ever.

  • Thanks for the effort, that is a long list to try and rank from top to bottom. My only discrepancy is #5. I would have it closer to #1. Losing to a lesser opponent in a meaningless bowl isnt uncommon. I know it was Air Force, but players at programs like OSU arent happy to be in a bowl playing AF in the first place. OSU is still trying to recover from the embarrassment against UF. The national perception of OSU probably wont fully recover until we beat an SEC team in the NCG.

  • I can still see Haden to JK Mckay in my sleep. Ugh. Wally Henry and Wendell Tyler for ucla broke my heart. Colt Mccoy, Charles White, Sherman Williams among so many last second heartbreakers. How things might have changed if Robiske hung on to the td vs LSU to go up 17-10. The next play was a blocked fg which led to the avalanche.
On the other hand, the instant cie grant broke through was my favorite moment in osu history. That cures all of the others.

  • I might move the embarrassing loss to South Carolina up the list just for the fact that it ushered in the best 10 years in OSU history! Or should I say the first 10 years of a 20 year reign of terror for the Buckeyes over the rest of the Big Ten! Go Bucks!

Good point, I was coming home from that game and heard Cooper had been fired.

I called a buddy of mine and said, "Man, that game was terrible."

My buddy had long been after Coop's scalp. He didn't bat an eyelash: "Hey, lose the battle, win the war."

  • I was at 29 & 35 both wins, and both were really talented teams.. 29 we were supposed to be going to the Fiesta bowl. I went to that game also that year as T Martin beat FSU!! The Rose Bowl #35 game Pryor controlled the game & our D was awsome!!! The #29 game we had a loaded team on both sides of the ball... I think like 12 guys on that team went to the NFL... I loved both of those teams! ! And this year I went to 2 games we went 12-0 I really have great memories of this team. I'm making plans to see Thee OSU VS CAL in Burkly so Then maybe a Rose Bowl or Playoffs ... BUCKEYE NATION LETS RIZE UP ANOTHER YEAR & MAKE IT SPECIAL 13-0
