Hate Conference Expansion

  • Seems like most people on this Board are going ga-ga over all this expansion talk. Sixteen, Eighteen. Even twenty teams.
Not me. Give me back the original Big Ten. Well, maybe it's OK to throw in Penn State.
What was the big deal getting Nebraska? We don't even play them in football for the next two years. And there'll be four years between their visits to The HorseShoe. We'll have all these teams in our conference but never get to play them but once every whenever. Even in basketball, we'll only play a bunch of teams once a year ... which means every other year at The Schott.
I know. I know. Big bucks for research and for the university as a whole, but from just my perspective ... an avid Buckeye football fan who's fortunate enough to have season tickets, it doesn't mean that much.

  • It doesn't hurt to have the teams in the conference.

Def help Buckeyes along the coast who may can never see a game. We'll be on the coast a lot more now.

  • If they go to a ten game schedule they'll play each other a lot more often. At least a home and home with each team once I. The kids career. That wouldn't be too bad.

I completely agree! The B1G presidents are going to get even richer. The B1G Network will get richer, but the fans? We won't benefit from this.

It's all about making rich people even more wealthy, plain and simple. One thing I used to love about college football is that conferences represented a part of the country. The B1G was midwest, the Pac 10 was pacific, etc.

Now conference geographics have no bearing. UNC belongs in the ACC, they are NOT a midwestern school.

I understand why all this is happening, but it doesn't mean I have to like it. Seems to me like it is all about making more $$$, of which I nor any other fans will get a penny of. No instead our reward is raising ticket prices at the Shoe. Sweet.

  • one thing i dont like about the expansion is. there taking nothing but basketball schools. which is good for basketball but lets be honest here. this is a football conference, and no one joined bucknuts for hoops. not to say theres no hoops fans on here. cuz im a hoops fan but everyone on this board would pick football over basketball. and if we play ucf whats the difference in north carolina or maryalnd? there egual to ucf in football so our schedule would still " suck " im all fopr big gams like texas and OU and oregon i have no issue with playing a washing state or ucla but i dont see the difference in bringing in basketball schools to play football. its no different then our weak schedules now.

  • Networks are only as good as the programming they have. I think one of the big drivers is The Big Ten Network itself, and I'm not talking about the money it makes. Plain and simple, they need product to put on the channel. More teams playing for the B1G means more games the network will have rights to. That goes for football, basketball, and all the other sports. While they are adding those teams, they are getting teams that open new markets, add to the academic prestige, and are in hot bed recruiting areas. I think they are completely looking to the future and setting the B1G up to stay relevant.

I am looking forward to getting the new teams. They aren't world beaters, but they aren't bottom dwellers either. We need good middle of the pack teams.

We are both atheists. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours

Charles Babb said it best. Eventually these conferences, when they start getting enough teams, will seceed from the NCAA to form their own playoffs and championship rules. What is happening now may now work very well for the current format, but it may all come together someday to make much more sense and allow us to crown a true champion.
