Help with an argument please

So I have a friend from PA who has followed PSU all her life. She's so distraught about her school that she is looking for another one to cheer for while they are on probation. As I'm telling her why tOSU is the obvious choice, she looked up something on her phone and told me that she couldn't cheer for a school that doesn't graduate many of their players. She read to me that we graduate only 10% of our players and only 5% of our African American players. To me, these numbers seem so ridiculous that I can't believe anyone could take them seriously, but I didn't know where to look to find anything real. L'il help please? Anyone?

Do people actually think before they give statistics? If OSU only graduated 10% of our players that would mean that only 9 players on the current team (using 85 man roster and rounding up)would see a diploma. I dont have any statistics to reference other than common sense but theres no way thats accurate. I seem to remember OSU under Tressel having one of, if not the best, team GPA.

OSU graduates about 62% of its players, which is tied for 16th in the country, per USAToday. Also have an academic performance rate, which measures classroom performance, in the top 10% in the nation. Your friend is misinformed.

Tell her our APR which measures Academic performance has been higher than PSU's for the past two years. I work for the AD with tutoring and I know for a fact that number is complete BS. Some players will leave for the NFL and not chose to complete their degree at that time, but about a decade ago they started a program that allowed previous athletes come back free of charge and complete their degree. Notable people who have done this include Vrabel and Fickell

Which is a Stanford analysis, so obviously not going to be biased towards OSU. The Bucks don't graduate at the same rate as Penn State by this analysis, but over the past 4-5 years of the analysis (not exactly a high point in stability for tOSU), the Bucks have had a rate in the middle of the BIG: 67% for all players and 51% for African-American players. These rates are among the highest of all teams consistently sending teams to the BCS games and ranked in the top 25. The discrepancy for African-American players is also about average. The rate compared to the OSU student body is better than many schools in the BIG and nationally. OSU and the football team both do well in academic all Big Ten. I couldn't find it quickly, but the football team had one of the highest rates of academic all Big Ten players in the conference in the past decade. Some of the references above are less biased and show OSU even better.
So we'd like to do better, but for an elite team, the Bucks do well academically.

Most recent APR has us ranked 4th in the nation. In the Big 10 we're second only to Northwestern.

Why didn't she look up our graduation statistics for Hispanics or Asians? I think you friend is a bigot and racist. Sounds more like a Wisconsin fan to me. I would steer her in that direction.
