Hicks Keeping Options Open

One of the top cornerbacks in Ohio's Class of 2013 talks about a possible offer from the Buckeyes and which other schools have caught his eye thus far ...

  • all the film tells me hes a high bcs player. anyone disagree?

  • Is this the kid Mark Porter said was the best Cover Corner in Ohio?

  • no that is the kid we offered the other day that either accepted or was about to accept; however this kid sounds talented.

  • No, he has the kid from Massillon as his top cover corner. Don't recall his name but his highlight video wasn't very impressive from a speed point of view. He may be able to cover but Meyer wants guys who can run and he didn't appear to separate from anybody from what I saw of him when returning kicks or picks. I think that may be why he's being slow played right now.

  • Gary, Steve, Dave,
Who recruits Ohio for BC? They seem to put quite a few offers on the table and have had some luck. That program is down but they seem to hit it hard here. Also, wondering what differences in recruiting you see between UM and TOSU? Seems Barney and his group are taking a team approach. Essentially you will eventually see almost ALL their coaching staff while it seems like with us you will see 2, maybe 3. Surprised Chryst at Pitt hasn't tried to make more in-roads as well, perhaps you can comment on who is recruiting the state for them. Thank you

I wouldn't disagree that he's a BCS player, but I don't know about an OSU-caliber guy. Not with the corners we have on board right now. He claims a 4.4 on scoutingohio.com, but his indoor times this year don't say 4.4. His best 60M time is a 7.31. Solid time, but far from elite. For comparison's sake, Shelton Gibson runs a 6.93 and Anthony Young a 6.92. For a guy who is not a big corner, I want to know he can turn and run with guys of that speed pedigree. I don't know that he can.

  • If he is waiting until NSD he has no chance of getting in this class.

well if OSU puts out an offer, he knows he might have to jump the gun and decide early.

I really hope OSU offers. I would like to see us land Gareon Conely & Hicks to go along w/ Woodard at Corner.
I see Cam Burrows growing into a safety. I also think we will flip Dymonte Thomas. Safety tandom of Burrows & Thomas.
DB class of Conley, Woodard, Hicks, Burrows & Thomas.
    I like it!

This makes no sense to me... If he can cover a receiver, (and he can), that should be enough, (and an indication of his burst). Gareon is a heady player that makes great reads. Why would he need to separate FROM a WR, unless he has the ball.... which he has a knack for doing. If he is able to cover, (which I have seen first hand), and he makes good reads and breaks on balls, (which the film shows he does), what are you seeing that makes you believe he doesn't have "elite" speed. Now obviously, I am biased, being from Massillon. But I also believe that this kid is one we do NOT want going to tsun..... he is a play maker!!
