I tip a minimum of 20%. If they do a really good job I will do as much as 25-30% I started my career in the hospitality industry and servers, bartenders, valets etc... need to make a living as well. They are working damn hard to take care of us. I am now a Realtor and I know that my success as a professional can be attributed to how I learned to take care of people in the service/hospitality industry. It's my way of giving back because there are a lot of talented, hard working people in that industry. They should be taken care of...so as long as they do a good job

Some of you who have waited tables, help me do the correct math. If you work at a nice place and work an 8 hour shift. I would assume you wait at least 20 tables who would average $150 each tabs. @20% that's $600 in tips/8 hours= $75/hr then add in minimum wages. I doubt they make anything close, so tell why my math is wrong. Do waiters split their tips with the kitchen? I am not trying to cute here, I've just never understood 20% so help me.

Not the kitchen, but they have to split with all the bus boys, and usually the hostess. If they are good enough to get a gig with 20 tables a night that average $150, they are probably very good at what they do and have been doing it a long time, and they deserve that money - it's a very tough job.
