You're right. All I want is Smith gone

  • The guilty players shouldn't play in this years bowl game. They were guilty last year and got a pass and shouldn't be rewarded this year. Those who are innocent will pay next year when they are long gone. The coaches should make them accountable.

  • Yes it sucks and yes I'm pissed about it, but many on here are over-reacting. First, for the here and now:
    1) Smith should be fired. Period
    2) Boom and Posey do not deserve to suit up in the bowl game.

Then, it's over and we move forward, as follows:
    1) Next year's seniors will be the ones most impacted. I feel bad for them.
    2) Incoming recruits will barely feel this. The 50% that don't redshirt will lose only their freshman yr bowl experience.
    3) Play the 2012 season with a huge chip on your shoulder.
    4) Hang at least 50 pts on EVERYONE!
    5) The Michigan game is our true bowl game. Crush them and ruin their title hopes.

Then, in 2013, we unleash the wrath of hell on every opponent that has the misfortune of stepping on the field with us. Braxton as a Jr. will be entering his prime. D-line will be better than most NFL units. O-line problems will have been fixed. Meyer's system hits it's stride in 2nd year. Take out the frustrations of 2011-2012 on EVERYBODY!!

    We'll be fine. Go Bucks!!

  • it is nice to have it out and over. The coaching staff just has to be very selective with their recruiting over the next couple years and I don't think that will be an issue.

  • So much for self compliance. I would suggest to any school facing NCAA sanctions to not impose penalties on yourself and do nothing to aid the NCAA in its investigation. This amounts to an admission of guilt and basically forces you to accept any penalty handed down because you have admitted your guilt. Also if you impose penalties on yourselt if the NCAA accepts them they are made to look like they did nothing and allowed you to name your own penalty. They are forced to add something. I hope the NCAA cracks down just as hard on the next offender. Every University who has ever been penalized by the NCAA should hold them accountable. Whoops they are not accountable to anyone. Probably the most undemocratic organization in the country. Yes I am Pissed because it happened to us.

  • So why not appeal this ruling based on the precedence Gene Smith is/was always citing? If the precedence is crystal clear then the NCAA is using a "double standard". Why should we just sit back and take it? Smacks of a kangaroo court to me. IMO the NCAA had to "save face" with all the adverse OSU publicity (and hatred) so othey didn't look "lenient". They (NCAA) are an embarassment to the game of collegiate football and sports in general.

  • Honestly, how could we have expected anything less than a 1 year Bowl Ban? There was such anti-OSU hysteria throughout the media and with USC having been banned there was clear precedent. Regardless of what Mr. Smith said, a Bowl ban should have been expected.

The unfortunate players are guys like Simon and Stoneburner. They had nothing to do with the scandal, yet their careers will be affected by this horrible 2011 season and now the Bowl Ban for next year. I put Brewster, Sweat and a few others in that same category.

Ironically, the good news is that the Bowl ban actually takes some pressure off of Meyer. He can still build towards a great season in 2012, but without the pressure of having to make it to the NC Game. I assume that the Buckeyes can still play in the Big Ten CG if they make it that far. Since the Team will be heavily Frosh and Sophomores, there will be added benefit in that these young players will gain valuable experience without the pressure of trying to go undefeated so they can play in the NC Game or a BCS Bowl. If they have a great season, everyone will recognize that and they will be highly ranked for 2013, and with a ton of experience. If I was a recruit, that is exactly how I would look at this. Probably not much playing time until 2013 anyway and by then the recruit may be in the 2 Deep on a Team hungry for and well placed for a NC run.

You are right. Gene Smith is toast. It is finally OVER!!!!!

Urban Renewal will proceed on schedule and if we kick everybody's ass next season, we can handle missing one bowl game.

I'm with you, let's just put it all behind us and move on. In the end I'm still happy we've been upgraded to a professional staff that will work hard and not be run by JT who clearly allows preferential treatment of players and doesn't hold his players or friends and family network of coaches accountable. I'm not gonna say anything else about Tress, good coach, good intentions, but lacked the intestinal fortitude to do the right thing when it really mattered. The punishment fits the crime, and the show cause penalty ends his college coaching career. Urban will use next year to the fullest and figure it out. It's nice to have a HC who actually answers questions directly without side stepping the media. Onto bigger a better days.

  • Thanks Bobby D, but also add slime ball Terrelle Pryor. His slime is all over this... Sell out your teammates Terrelle, so you can move on to the NFL. You are a POS that brought down a good man in Jim Tressel, inflicted major damage on your former teammates, and basically sold out OSU for your own personal gain...

I hope OSU bans Pryor from campus forever and "vacates" his name from the history of OSU football- including the record books... heck, they forced OSU to vacate a season- it's the least OSU could do to return the favor to the selfish prima-Donna.

    Go Bucks!

  • people have said that history will be kind to Tressel. After today, I don't think so. Much like "the punch," this will now be what Tress is remembered for. Sad but true.

Because he's probably already got a sense that any appeal is fruitless and keeps this ongoing.Do you really want this to continue?

Look, the NCAA is it's own judge and jury. It's clearly a crapshoot as to what they will do.

I agree, finally a decision, could be worse. Lets put it in the rearview and full steam ahead!

+1,000. Let's not forget he violated his employment contract by not providing written performance evaluations of JT.

  • I know it's not probable, but wouldn't it be great if OSU ran the table and finished in the top 2 BCS and couldn't go to the NC game? Won't happen, but wouldn't it be fun? One good thing about this: Maybe Travis Howard will go pro now.

What I REALLY want to see now is how the NC2A handles the Miami situation. BETTER be a VERY BIG HAMMER!!!!

And PSU. Based on our "unprecedented precedent" both Miami and PSU should be in death penalty territory.

Which raises huge issues for the B1G. Jim Delany, what is your Plan B?

We won't lose recruits. Most of these guys will be playing on special teams or even redshirt. It will really only impact a handful of true freshmen.

If one game is enough to make you NOT want to play for tOSU and Urban Meyer, you probably weren't going to commit in the first place.

I understand your point about how missing just one game shouldn't alter a recruit's decision. However, I don't think there's too much room for error with regards to guys on the fence (eg Dodson) or a super star who's recently taken a look at OSU (eg S. Diggs).

From what I understand, the 2012 bowl ban really is a (potentially) 2-game ban: the B1G title game and a bowl trip. Plus, these are high profile games against marquee opponents. A lot worse than missing games against teams like Akron, Toledo, Colorado, etc.

There is enough blame to go around for everyone involved here - Smith on how he handled some things, Pryor -Adams- Posey and the rest for "tatgate" and Tressel.

You cannot absolve Tressel from any of this. He lied to the NCAA.

  • It was an absolute no brainer that there was going to be a bowl ban. The punishment DID fit the crime. NCAA and Delaney lets OSU in a BCS game last year thinking they know everything..then they find out Tresse4l LIED to them. The bowl ban was in place at that very moment. The thought that the Bobby D stuff was the straw that broke this is just speculative BS that I don't buy , just like I didn't buy the no bowl ban since last May.

starting with the most worthless POS first..Delooney ...then Smith...then whoever is in charge of compliance @ OSU.

Tressel's legacy forever tainted. Two HC gigs...two schools with NCAA sanctions.

  • Wow! Gene Smith could have self-imposed a bowl ban for our 2011 6-6 Buckeyes and we could have played in a bowl game in 2012. Are you friggin kidding me? The guy is a Ass Clown! As for the NCAA better known as Jack Wagons they finally got what they wanted! Makes me sick!
